IF its de-restricted, there will be a little black box somewhere behind the clocks.

The clocks normally plug into the loom but is replaced by the little black box.

so if the clocks are wired to the loom then it will be restricted. if there is a black box then it isnt anymore

Yep that right, if the clocks plug into the loom then its still restricted. It may be that it has never been de-restricted but who knows. You need to get yourself a de-restrictor then :)

Not entirely sure about having the speedo disconnected and the effect it would have :smt017 Well it wouldnt reach the 110mph thats for sure so i guess the restrictor wouldnt kick in, but it does right?

The restrictor is in the CDI unit, once the needle reaches 110mph (180kmh) it wont let the engine rev any higher. Putting the de-restrictor on tells the CDI it hasnt got to that speed yet so lets you rev out all the way.

you cant just dissccont speedo, i tryed this, doesnt work still rev limits, you have to get uk cdi or a black box. the clocks clearly feed a positive signal to the cdi hence u cant just disscount speedo

Sorry i mean the speedo cable, if thats not connected but the clocks are connected to the loom surely that would work? Perhaps the CDI knows this by the fact that the engine is reving and you are going up in the gears.

You have to email them, thats what i get everyone to do if they want one, last person i spoke to i think was bikers and they told him they wanted about 30 for them. But they are willing to sell, just for some reason they dont sell em on ebay, god knows why.

i'm puzzled.

i've had 4 import zxr400s now, and the only advantage in the uk cdi has been an extra 400rpm, which i don't want as it's actually after the power tails off anyway.

the restriction is in speed not power, so there is a optical sensor with a flag in the speedo which kicks in at around 120mph. i just took the speedo cable off and bob's your uncle.

can be unhealthy for your licence (license?) though
