Is my bike restricted?

Post by DazSH »

Hi all i passed my test on feb 14th this year and have just been cruising getting used to my bike so havent kicked it in much lol.
Well my mate came round and had a go to see if its all ok he said that it feels like it doesnt want to rev past 10k so might be restricted.
I gave it a good go the other day and it seemed fine to me but this is my first bike. is there any tell tale signs that it is or isnt restricted.

Also he said his old vfr 400 would beat it(and that was a dog compared to my zxr), im not sure if hes just jealous as he started on a 50 then 125 then to his vfr 400. Also he may think its slow as he has a 53plate gsxr 750 now which hes had a year. So if he went back to his vfr that might feel the same.

Any ideas before i start to strip also how much would a tune and carb balance cost, and anyone know anyone good in the northeast Middlesbrough area.

Its annoying me now as he keeps saying 33bhp to me lol, i kept with him quite well to 90mph when i bottled it.

Also if i take off the throttle fully when i go to put it back on it judders and struggles till after 3k any ideas?.

Thanks :smt017

Also dont understand why a full staineless steel exhaust and pipercross filter would be added if they where restricting it.
But there is residue of glue on the front screen like l plates where on at one point..

is it an import? could be the cdi or plates in the carbs.
anything is possible with enough time and money. and an open mind...

No uk bike , and dunno might be crab plates but dont want to strip it if a good balance would do the job.

if its just plates on the carbs it will probably be easier to take them out first. im not sure about either but a mate can have it stripped, plates out and put back together in about half an hour. might pay you to get them balanced anyway.

Looks like im gonna have to strip it and see, just wondering whether they would be a way to test before stripping
to save me stripping it again to balance carbs . i think it ok and its just him trying to find problems but i better
check anyhow. thx all

Are the clocks in kms? If they are then its possible they are restricted in the clocks via the CDI, you can check by looking at the back of he clocks and see if its plugged in to the wiring loom. Also, have you had it past 110mph at all?

fair enough mate. check round the back of the clocks anyway and see if theres a loose connector, it could be the clock has been changed and a derestrictor not pluged in.

If theres no loose connector then your bike is probably a uk bike for certain. In which case youll need to get the air box off and look through the carbs and see if you can see anything like this in the inlets

Looks ok to me, cant see extra wires. The extra wire will come out of the loom somewhere, so as long as there aren't unconnected connectors it looks liek a UK bike!

So now you need to get the airbox off and check to see if there are any restrictor plates in.

The little screws that tighten the clips that hold the carbs on are a pain in the ar5e to get at
In the past I've used a very long screw driver but because it's hard to get the screw driver on square the screws get damaged.
I replaced all those screws with little cap heads (allen key) now I use a ball ended allen key and it is sooooooooooooo much easier.
Any good screw/nut bolts shop will have them just take one of the old ones as a sample.............

If yer really wanting I can send you some...........very cheap good price............ much cheapness
