Cheaper way for putting 33BHP restrictors in?

Post by pepsi_max68 »

Hi, I have just bought myself a 1996 black zxr400 but being 18 and just passed my test it's a legal requirement for me to have it restricted.
I have a friend who had this done to his zxr600 and it cost him around £150. However, I was looking on ebay for a restrictor kit when i came across this : http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/KAWASAKI-33BHP-RE ... 286.c0.m14

If I was to buy the restrictors and put them in myself and also buy one of these certificates, would it be the same as having a mechanic do it and therefor saving me over £100 ?

Thanks.

you don't even have to buy the restrictors you could make em yourself if you have the diy skills as the templates and dimensions ar on this forum.

& i doubt the insurance co will check up on your cert
Don't forget people there is more to the zxr400 than this forum... check out www.zxrworld.co.uk also.

I had mine done properly which cost me bout £120 and my insurance company were more arsed about my datatag certificate than my restriction certificate!
If it's broke spray it with WD40, if it's still broke spray it again and leave it over night, if it's still broke, bin it.

What a waste of money that is !

Go to B&Q, buy some 15mm poly pipe used for plumbing - cut it into 4 x 25mm lengths (So you only need a small piece)

Take your carb tops off , look at the inside of the cap - you should see a raised circle in there and the pipe will fit round that. Bond one into each cap and refit.

Your throttle valves will now no longer open fully and there for restrict your bike.

if any claim arises you can show that they have been restricted.
