you wont mate, get a filter wrench, cheap chain one will do you can get them for about £4 from halfords or any car accessory place, failing that stick a screwdriver in the side and use that to lever it.do the new one up hand tight.

i usually wrap some sandpaper round the filter and use that to get a good grip on the filter.

has worked everytime so far.

you were just wearing your pants at the time?

Best way and, the least messy for me is to use an oil filter cap:

Its shaped to the filter and has a nut welded to the back so you can get a spanner on. :smt001

really? i got mine from ebay for about 15 quid incl P&P at the time. I originally bought it for my XJR400 as i couldnt get any other filter wrench behind the downpipes to undo it so bought one, any other filter wrench just plain didnt work. You can even use it to do it up which your probably not supposed to do cos i think they just need to be hand tight. They are 5-10 quid on ebay now :)

Just wondering what types of oil filters you use? Are they specific to different bikes? Sorry I know its a bit of a simple question!

K&N filters have a socket attachment on the end of them, 14mm spanner i think, and they tend to be no more expensive than normal. M&P sell them

iv got a k&N filter and having that bolt on the end of it really helps and they arn't loads more than a standard one.
