ok ok i spoke too soon. its doin it again. was fine till id covered a mile then started acting like a spastic. ill check them voltages baz and post results when its stopped pissing down :)

ok here ya go baz.

voltage etc:- EDIT------did a 2nd test just now 11.45am and these results are in brackets.

bike off ---- 13.01v ( 13.04 )
bike idling lights off ----14.60v ( 14.70 )
bike idling lights on ---- 14.10v ( 13.43 )
4000rpm lights off ---- 14.75v (14.82 )
4000rpm lights on ---- 15.26v ( 15.30 )

hope this helps fathom what ISNT the prob?

to me that seems like the reg/rec is playing up the voltages seem a bit high

just seen your post mate. thats what i was thinking. bit of a bugger if it is cos the alternator and rectifier are all one unit on the zx7 ive been told. if its the general concensus that it could be buggered does anyone know the way to test them. pain in the butt to remove. well it is for me lol. i would google it but on dial up the bike would be registered as aclassic by the time i get a search through lol.

Personaly, i think those readings are too high. I would think you want a maximum of about 13.8v. Did you say that the reg/rec is part of the alternator?? Might be worth dropping these a line maybe, not used them myself, but they come recommended

thanks guys. ill do the tests tomorro. ive covered my butt and found a good one near me for 30 notes in case the tests prove its fooked.

ok good question. how the f*** do i remove the generator/rectifier thing. anyone know. fecked if im taking the carbs off.
