zx7r help....bike running like a bag of shit---FIXED

Post by rover220 »

hi guys, 2 days ago the bike started running like an utter bag of toad, below 5k its missing and has no power at all but above 5k it pulls like a train. oddly, it started running toad the day after i removed the baffle from the end can(this has now been replaced but hasnt helped)

im 99% sure its fuelling so was wondering if anyone had any bright ideas....the carbs are off at the mo and ive removed the float bowls and cleaned them up plus ive blasted carb cleaner up all the jets in the vain hope that it will sort it. i have also removed the end caps and checked the diaphrams and they are good.

does anyone have any bright suggestions?

cheers muchly

mike

I think Diesel had this same problem with his 7, might be worth dropping him a mail and see what he says?

If the induction is similar to the 9's it might be worth having a look at all the air pipes under the tank and making sure none of those has come off...

Pulling the baffle / db killer should just make it run rich which wouldn't affect it in that way.

Sounds like your reg/rectifier is on it's way out - you need a Yosh' meter to monitor it :smt002

Cleaning the carb's might cure but feel it's something else.Check vacuum hoses too.

had a zx7 before this 400 and i had similar problem , turned out one of the vacum pipes had worked loose under the tank , they dont have any form of clip on them and rely on good faith and the way they sit to keep them on ,worth alook

well it seems its deffo fuelling, underfuelling to be precise......got the carbs back on after a sort of strip clean but its no better......its backfiring like a goodun so has got to be underfuelling......need to strip them down properly and remove the needles it would seem!!!

ayone have any further thoughts?

would a split diaphragm in the carbs cause these problems?

not sure but when i was checking them over, i lifted all the sliders and 3 returned like silently but on wheezed as it returned and a good friend has said he thinks its almost certainly a diaphragm.

i have a spare set of carbs so will swap a diaphragm over and see if its any better..

i was under the impression a split one would cause poor running higher up the rev range but the bike is sweet above 5k so im still stumped really!!!

help!!!

a split diaphram would cause running problems all the time i would of thought, unlikely but ......make sure it is seated properly and not got twisted or come off.

When my GT had a hole in one of it's diaphragms it was rough at tick-over and I couldn't get the carb's to balance well.

Used the bike for month's like that and it was only when I was doing a winter overhaul that I discovered it and a blob of inner tube glue soon solved it :smt001
