Blaaack plugs

Post by Neosophist »

So the bike passed the MOT fine... visit to the DVLA office on Monday to get it registered.

Started it up today however and it was only firing on 3 cylinders :/ One of the plugs was the black it wasn't firing (CR9IEX Iridiums)

Had trouble before but the carbs were manky.. there perfectly shiney now.

Sooooo

It's a Jap L1 model with 90 mains...

The L supplement says pilot screws should be 1 5/8 open.

I've got them set at 2.25 at the moment (as forum / board members suggested between 2 - 2.5)

Looking at the manuals it says for the H model that its 2 - 2.5 and the L model 1 5/8ths.

Anyone else confirm this?

I've cleaned up the plugs and am going to try leaning the carbs out a bit now.

Will get it dyno'd and set up when it's all on the road just don't want it so rich its' fouling plugs.!

yep, but . really.. just set them rich enough not to hang, and lean enough not to bog down..

and, I doubt blackened plugs is down to a fractionally rich or lean idle mix.. see how it is after its been ridden in anger n stuff ..

I've not had good experiences with the iridium plugs either btw ..
