zxr 400 project, brains blank

Post by toksiczxr »

Hi everyone I have read almost all the post on here and I just cant get this beast to start, so I have a buggy with a zxr 400 h1 engine in it, it was starting and running until bam no more spark, so I looked all thru the internet got to here and found it was the regulator, I have now purchased a second hand regulator that looks good, put it in and nope still no spark, yet I have power to the igniton, the loom was dodgy so I pulled it all out and got a secondhand uncut loom, and still no spark, have checked coils, plugs, leads, wiring, timing, flywheel/alternator, pickup coil, carbs, fuel pump, has good compression, has good battery. can some one please help me!!! :smt013

cdi perhaps?

the reg/rec is only needed to charge the battery.

as arsy as it sounds, you are going to have to trace every wire of the ignition circuit, there is a manual on the front page (http://www.zxrworld.co.uk/zxr400/manual.html), you must have a break somewhere, also check for disabled things like clutch lever, sidestand switch (which will have been removed for your buggy)...as all these things contribute to the CDi not potentially allowing a spark to fire.

Hi thanks yeah I got another cdi on the way, I also still have the complete loom so it still has the side stand wires wich I had joined, and even when the clutch is fully engaged it still wont spark. but a few weeks ago it was running until the reg/rectifier blew.

ive narrowed it down to either being the cdi unit, or the pickup coil,

you've also gone through the fuses in the fusebox, as well as the 30A fuse attached to the starter relay i presume?
