Hello and thanks for reading!

Im not a mechanic but i try to do everything myself.

My bike is not running good, it has a lot lack of power and sounds really funny! When the engine runs at low rpm and i give it a quick rev cluncking sound comes. First i thought it wasn't running at all 4 cylinders, but all my 4 downpipes gets hot.

So what ive done to try and fix it:
New sparkplugs and checked for spark on all 4
Cleaned my carbs while watching a DIY on Youtube
Drained fueltank and replaced with brand new fuel
Drained and replaced engine oil with Motul 15W50 fully synthetic
Tried to tamper with the mixture scew on the carbs(1-2screws out)

I hope someone please will help me because this is really making me depressed:( really good weather here in norway now

Thank you

Why 15W50 fully synth :smt017 Thicker viscosity is surely bad on warm up in a cold climate, 10W40 semi synth is as prescribed by Kawasaki.
I've heard off people using heavier oils to sell a dodgy engine, my apologies if it's a regional thing, not familiar with Norway.

Did you remove the carbs to clean them, cos it sounds like they aren't fitted properly, sounds too airy if that's a word, seals and Orings okay???
Go easy with that idle adjuster too :pmsl Looks like you are turning the idle down too much, will not start with idle turned right down.

Hello and thanks for quick reply!

I was recommended 15w50 at the local shop!

Its possible that my carbs arent fitted properly, ill try to check that tonight! Thanks!:)

Way to idle trigger happy.

Let the bike warm up and adjust the idle to 1500/2000 rpms.
Get the valve clearances checked along with that cam chain as it doesnt sound all that healthy.
As KwakKwak says, check the carbs are fitted correctly and the jubilee clips are on tight enough.

10w-40 is fine for a zxr, dont use 15w-50.
Go slap the person who suggested it.

Do you think that the oil im using is causing problems?

Ok. Sitrep!

Seems like my bike is starting fine, didnt even use choke! Carbs are in position, and i took it for a very short spin!

The engine is not as revy as it was at all, it accelerates like a donkey, has very funny sound, dark sound. It has very little power and the engine cuts out very easy while taking off in 1st gear..

Thats a job that requires a bit. Ill check with the local kawaski shop tomorrow, they probably dont have time for anotjer two months. But thank you!

Very very yes, no way it would be in my bike.

"Dark" sound could be an air leak, does it sound deep without the usual ZXR sharpness??? Time for fun fun fun, find the air leak, plenty on here about that.

Yes, it sounds deep without the zxr sharpness.

Seems like the carbs are sitting tight, and the popping is coming from the trumpets..?

Ive changed to 10w40 and heres what it sounds like today!

Also ive set the mixture screw to 1.5

Listen to the cracking sound when revving quick

Are you calling my Denon unscientific??? Unlike my bike it's perfectly tuned :pmsl

Ok. I checked for spark again today. Im getting spark on all 4 cylinders, but when i pull out the sparkplug cables while the engine is running the engine cuts on cyl1 and cyl3, but it doesnt react on cyl2 and cyl4.

So, the engine isnt running on cyl2 and cyl4, what to do now?

swap the coil packs over, and see if the problem is still there on the same cylinders (so its not the coil packs), or is the problem gets moved (i.e. its the coil packs).

you say 1+3 are ok, and 2+4 are dead:
swap the coil pack that goes to 1+4 to 4+1 (so you just reverse which plugs it connects too), and swap 2+3 to 3+2:

if you find that now 2+4 are ok and 1+3 are dead then you have 2 almost dead coil packs. if the problem doesnt move, then its not an issue with your coil packs...and if all 4 cylinders are making a spark its unlikely to be ignition related.

try a bit of easy start down the dodgy bores and see if you can coax them into life...has the bike been rested for a while? you might need to clean out your carbs, a deep sounding note is usually a sign of not enough/any fuel getting in.
