Rejet after cam change

Post by Miles »

Hey, hopefully someone can shed some light on this. I've totally restored my zxr l3 but unfortunately I'm having some running issues.

She absolutely perfect on the bench. Starts on the button, revs to the redline no problems.

As soon as she's under load however she struggles to rev, lacks power and stalls at idle.

I've changed plugs, coils, wiring loom, battery, igniter. Compression test comes back at 120-150-150-150 (the 120 cylinder has scoring)

The carbs have been vapour blasted, rebuilt with all new kwak seals and a Dynojet Stage 1 kit installed. Balanced. K&N filter

I've had the head skimmed and have had the SP adj cams dialled in by an engine builder.

Ran out of things to do but do you need the SP igniter etc with cams or: is the bike firing early/late? Or is it more likely a jetting issue?

Any help would be appreciated

Which igniter do you have in it/
what setting were the cams adjusted to/
which jet sizes does the dyno kit have and which needle position?

I have the stock ECU/igniter (blue M) and stock pulsar disk.

From memory the cams were dailled in to either 108 or 110. I seem to remember starting with the 'most common' as the engine builder said. I'll try to get a hold of him and see if he remembers what he dailled them in at. Have to apologize as this area is about out of my understanding and I didn't really have a lot of information to give the builder. He seems to think the problem is mixture not cam related. Maybe you can't use the sp cams in a stock bike.

It's a stage 1 DJ kit put in as per instructions. So I believe it's needles on groove 2 with washers , DJ main jets of 96 and drilled out slides.

Thanks

Hm sounds quite okay so far. Maybe you should try to set the needles lower/ clips higher. I've in mind that they make the bike running very rich otherwise.

Additionally you should probably get your hands on a more open end can. Don't know if the cams have that much influence on that part but should be better I guess
