Start by dropping the engine, draining the oil (sift through it for metal and debris) and then take the rocker cover off and check the cams and valves. If that all looks ok, drop the sump and see whats cooking.
Probably gearbox, alternator, clutch or top end. Big ends dont let go that often tbh and when they do its usually explosive.
The ZXR engine block is small enough to be fixed; pretty much anything short of a total lunching can be fixed. Don't panic.

Or........
Change the 30A fuse on the solenoid.
I had something similar where it would do that and leave the tiniest bit of black on the fuse blade, and that was enough to stop it working until I changed the fuse.
Depends what you mean by the vibrations thing? Mine would backfire and pop and stuff, then the revs would die and stall. First time it happened I thought the engine was dead.

TBH 90% of the engine could be salvaged and kept as spares or sold as spares.
I'd just repair it either way ..
What went?

I cant remember exactly but theres a big hole in the front of the engine. he bought a new one now APPARENTLY its a jap import with only 10,000 miles on it, and guess what its only £500 bargain.
