the bike started to play up again today started fine this morning went for a ride and it started firing on 3 cylinders again till about 7k then it was ok all the way to the red line and will not start when she is hot i have to hold the throttle wide open and hold the starter on for about 1 minute then she starts and run's at about 2k rpm at full throttle for about 2 minutes then she jumps to life and she is ok till i cut the engine and try a restart and it's the same again when she is HOT. So back home I go take it to bit’s AGAIN and the oil filler cap was full of mayonnaise but know sign of a blown head gasket. How much would it cost to do a head gasket and can i do it our is it a job for the garage???
All and any advice is always welcome

I've never done it...

but in my opinion there's no reason why you couldn't do a head gasket at home. Obviously if you need the head skimming then you will need to get someone to do that, but I don't think there's anything else involved in it that you couldn't do.

head gasket is easy if you are methodical and have the manual with the correct bolt order and torque settings etc ..

you shouldnt "need" to skim the head either unless you've properly cooked it.. just check it for flatness (real word?) by putting the gasket surface against a bit of glass.

i find it easier to drop the engine completely as it can be a bit fiddly timing everything back up with it in the frame, but it can be done either way.
