Bike purrs like a kitten all the time, BUT!

As soon as i hit about 8k the bike seems to suffer. It wont go over it, the most i got out of it last night was 90mph in 6th gear @ 8k.
I have put a proper air filter in, the old one turned out to be a bit of foam. There was gaffer tape over the 2 bolt holes in the middle of the air box, and over half the main air intake at the top of the box.
I have removed all that tape, the bike is great under 8k, but seems there is a loadsa air, but need more fuel thing going on.
Easy way to resolve this?
Dyno ? expensive
Tape? cheap
Magic ? need to find a wizard
Cheers
P.S.

The holes in the airbox are supposed to be blocked off with rubber gromits.
I would put tape back on to block the holes again.
Its not restricted is it?

There is rubber holding the snorkel in place

Im assuming it started doing it once you removed all that tape? In wich case its probably running lean now.
If you wanna check its restricted take a close look at the inlet rubbers, if its restricted you should see a shiny extra bit of ally inbetween the rubber and head. Alternatively push up one of the needles from the back of the carbs with the throttle wide open and have a look down, you should see a nice dark hole.
As previously mentioned those holes are meant to be blocked.
The only reason to block the snorkel is to richen up the mixture, id have those plugs out and see what they look like.

If not restricted it sounds like fuel starvation at high revs-ie no power /wont rev above certain level etc. Try checking the fuel filter while you have the tank of - try bypassing it.

Bike is running sweet again,
Covered up the bolt access holes, and 1/4 of the air intake with tape. And left a good few cars standing at the lights onthe way home. I might open up the air intake again, while keeping the bolt access holes covered and see what happens.
Stand by for action!!!!

After running the bike for a couple of weeks, and attending the dyno day @ j+p, i am going to put the bike in for some jetting work to resolve the issue.
The beast has been running hot and Chris replaced the sender on the rad for me with one he pulled of a track zxr he had parked up outside for 30 squids fitted.
Peace out
