Possible upgrades?
As I mentioned in the newbie section I recently bought a zxr400 h1 track bike but she has a few issues that I need to resolve. The suspension fore and aft is a soft as one of my gran’s sponge puddings. The brakes are in a bad way and the oil radiator & hoses are shot.
Now before I set about stripping everything down and replacing bits I’m wondering what if any improvements can be made? Parts used from other models?
As this will be my first attempt at striping and rebuilding forks / rear shock where is the best place to get the seals, springs, etc or does anyone do a kit with everything I am likely to need?
Cheers
Dave

there's usually cheap fork seals on ebay. springs I have no idea, mine seem stiff enough
I think the calipers are common among quite a few bikes of that age. People have also done upgrades with other types - gixxer ones seem common. If you do a search you'll prob find loads of threads on the subject.

For handling, i think most of the racers send thier forks off to someone to setup, i think its sloweracing who send them to a guy in Holland or Belgium! You can get an Ohlins rear shock for the ZXR, seen a few pop up on ebay a couple of times, not cheap tho!
For brakes, you can fit 6 pot calipers from a gixxer K4 (i think) with minimal modification. But dont know about better performance on that front.
ZX6R front end goes right in using the same yokes,
As for interchangeable parts, i know you can use ZX6R clip ons if you fancy fitting bar ends, not sre what else goes other than that. Most L and H parts also swap, but be careful cos not all!

Right the track bike is starting to come together now!
I've managed to source a WP rear shock and some Maxton forks as well as picking up a sprint damper and refurbished front brake system.
The only problem I'm left with is the oil cooler and hoses which are shot. Anybody no of a decent after market one I can use without having to fashion new brackets etc?

I've seen a H1 for sale at a reasonable price so might buy that, take what I need and break the rest on ebay.jake wrote:there is a couple of zxr4 getting broken up on ebay at the mo.Probs the cheapest maybee from them, if not ams always have most bits usually.
WP shock..nice one,4618 model? ive got one on my roadbike, they are totally superb, well worth the extra money i think.
Not sure what model the shock is but it came off an L1 race bike. It was being offered at a silly low price so if it don't fit I'll make it
