Hi everyone, My name is Sam and am soon to be a zxr owner after researching the other available 400's. Im new to bikes having decided to shift my attention from cars. Having looked through the classifieds for the last couple of months I've noticed there are more imports than UK spec bikes. Are there any downfalls to buying an import other than the reduced power output and kph display?

thanks for any help

Hi, I may have been mislead by certain information then relating to carb size and rev limit differences etc.

I see, well the rev issues can be sorted via a UK spec CDI. I shall have to see what I can afford come paytime :excited

Hi and welcome. The major downside to an unofficial import, or 'grey' as they are called (because ALL Jap bikes are by their nature imports) is that they are not / never were UK dealer supported. This can give you problems when it comes to sourcing spares. Warranty is also an issue (there won't be a dealer one) with current bike models but that's irrelevant with discontinued models like the ZXR. In the case of the ZXR you probably won't find much problem sourcing spares although H model bike (the grey one) may be a little more difficult. What you do need to think hard about is buying some other makes / models of grey import as some of those can be a major PITA to source spares for. Just in case you were tempted to defect, that is........ :smt002

Thanks for the advice. Im definitely after an zxr 400 L model and they not only look the best of the bunch but also seem to be the best spec for the money. I will probably end up buying one and rebuilding it over the winter as I am very fussy when it comes to things being clean and in top working order.
