Avon 3d Ultra Extreme

Post by jonesyracing »

Hi has anyone used or using these?
At £215 pair a fair bit cheaper than supercorsa's.

Yes been using the Avons for a couple of years on the 400 and happy with them.

As you say much better price than the other manufacturers.

Thanks for reply :smt001
Read some good reviews on them, so would you say performance is up there with the pirelli's etc?

Do you also run the Avon wets?

I tried a pair at Brands, and found the grip was fine but the front had hardly any use whereas the rear seems to be so soft, the rear had loads of "balls" o the edge from only one race. Great for grip, but may not end up so cheap if it doesn't last as long.

I notice on eBay that the Avons available appear to vary in the compound codes from size to size, like rear 160 and 180's but have no idea what the codes represent.

Ah ok, I will have to look into what compounds are available and take it from there.
Only ever used Pirelli's on the 400 and 125 but if I can save money without sacrificing grip and longevity why not.

To update this thread, had a long chat with the Avon guys at BSB and there is only one compound.
My 160 rear looked quite used after only Brands, but had 6 races at Snetterton as well now and the grip was very good, and tyre wear looks fine, with more life left, so feeling happier.
I picked up a 180 to try, but not used it yet.

6 five lap races as I entered 400's and Thunderbikes
So in real terms the tyres done "3" meetings of races so far

I used them at Silverstone and had no problem with grip, not sure if they will last as long as Pirelli's :-)

Used them for qualifying at Tandragee and last weekend racing at East Fortune (so both roads and short circuit). They're a different profile but very easy to get used to and confidence inspiring grip. I've been SuperCorsa's for years on the 400 but these are excellent and cheaper.
