H1 Rad for racing

My H1 has the small rectangle rad as opposed to the larger one that the H2/L1-L9 uses, I know the racer guys sometimes has to tape up the rad to keep it from over cooling, is it worth me keeping to the H1 rad so i don't have to tape it up??
