I have a Mitsubishi CDI fitted, with 2 yellow DOTS (stickers) it also has the code 3672 the bike is a 1994 SP, possible import. The Rotor fitted is a 1223. Do these items match ? Is the CDI a rare one ?

Thank you

sounds like a M-model to me (the SP version of the L model), you should have flatslide carbs with a throtle position sensor on the RHS, compression adjusters on the base of the forks, a remote preload adjuster for the rear shock, a close ratio gearbox and an M stamped on the RHS of the cylinders (near the cams).

Hi Banner
Thank you for your reply, I notice your not a million miles away from me, I am at Thornton, Coalville.
Now to bore you !
I Purchased this bike many years ago to replace my other ZXR400 race bike, but I was mugged. It was advertised as a ZXR400SP with a freshly built engine with Kent adjustable cams etc. It never did run properly so I stuffed it away and purchased an R6 and raced that.
The bike is an SP, it does have the SP front forks etc and came with all the SP bodywork. But I am not so sure about the engine ! It was manufactured in 1994 but was registered to the UK in 1999, so I believe it’s an import. Back when I first had it I took it to Anthony Gobert at Stoke Golding and he could not get it running right. I had the engine rebuilt about 7 years ago and I have not run it since then, it has just sat on my garage floor. Apparently it does have Kent adjustable cams etc, but not flat slides. I think this is not the original engine ! And that is why I would like to know if it had a restricted CDI or if it matches the rotor ? It has a total loss wiring loom. I have decided to try and get it back together.
How can I find out if the CDI is restricted and if it matches the rotor ? I am confused !! The CDI has the 2 yellow stickers on.
Cheers Stephen

Your cdi is non restricted, 1223 is the M1 rotor, so that matches up too.

I would do all the easy stuff first, so valve clearances, get the cam degrees checked by a proper garage, compression, spark plugs etc I would try and source some carbs but your gonna struggle on the open market, might have more luck at race meets...

You might be able to fit TPS flatslide carbs from another bike, or mount a TPS to a set of different carbs.

You could try a 1189 rotor and blue M CDI which should treat the engine like a UK L model.

Am quite happy to come round for a natter if you want.

Hi,
That’s good then, with regards to the CDI and rotor. The engine in theory should be good as I had it rebuilt about 7 years ago, it has never been run since, as it just sat on my garage floor !
I have a ram air box etc, and I removed the rear shock and replaced it with a Techno-flex.
Would be good to have a natter about it and what you have.
Cheers
