Cat C write off??!!

Post by NeiiseZXR »

You may remember my zxr L7 possibly dropped a valve last month and I've found a shabby 2001 with 13400 miles on the clock... No MOT for 3 years
Originally I was going to pay £800 for it but I've found it was a Cat C just now...

Would you offer less ?

Plus would a 2001 engine fit into a 1997 bike?

Yes a 2001 engine will fit a 1997 bike.

When was it a cat c as mine was and the only requirement after buying it back and rebuilding it was an MOT and the police checked it over about 6 months or so afterwards to check I hadn't put a larger engine in and not declared it.

Has it had an MOT since being a cat c? And what damage was actually done?

No MOT since 2013 when it finished.
Damage to fairings, fork seal, impression (not a dent asuch) on tank, lack of mirror indicators cosmetically it's shabby, engine wise I've seen videos of it running and idling ok... Common blow on exhaust ..
I have a 97 model that's just passed its MOT so I have cosmetic stuff to attach and anything else.
The guys been really honest with everything so it seems, it's just last minute finding its a CAT C which he said he never knew about it. He has most service history and v5 and two keys

I've offered 300 for the engine and 200 for the rest... Think this is alright, 13330 miles on the clock of 2001 engine seems good for me?

There was someone breaking 2 ZXR 400 L9s in Sussex on Gumtree, it may be worth getting in contact with him and seeing if he'll sell you an engine.
I'm breaking my H model as mine also dropped a valve.. well 2

Edit - looked for the ad but it's gone. I'll PM you his number though

mine was a cat c, im guessing most are front end crashes, as long as the frame is straight, no damage to the headstock it should behave like any other bike.

remember these bikes are cheap, so insurance companies will write them off as cat d for very light damage (i.e. a fairing) or cat c (forks, exhaust etc.) without binking an eyelid...its not a £60,000 merc...

mine had obviously had a front end smash as the oil cooler was no longer connected to the radiator and the fork legs had some cosmetic damage to the gold coating, the owner/garage must have replaced these parts and sold it on to me...ive had no issues with it other than those i have caused, or through wear and tear.
