From Cargo's post on gaskets i thought we could get a collection of top tips together to help fellow zxr owners. So post any useful tips in this thread.(and i don't mean full writeups, create a seperate thread for those.)

When I fit a new gasket I put a light smear of grease on one of the faces.................next time the cover comes off the gasket is usually stuck to the face that had no grease and is nearly always still intact and so can be reused.....................

If ur replacing brake pads and the piston looks a little rusty, remove the piston, clean it up on a wire wheel, remove the seals, scrape any crusty muck off them and rebuild them with a good smear of rubber grease on the piston and seal faces.

Buy Mach 3 razors and a tube of silicone. Take apart the blades carefully until you have about twelve tiny blades. Take 1 Tax disc holder and spread the silicone all over the rear of the holder and place the blades evenly all around the rear of the holder in a star manner. Leave to dry and carefully replace the holder onto your bike. This should stop those people who think it's clever to steal your Tax Disc's instead of buying one. :smt018 :smt018 :excited :excited :excited :excited

If you're changing bearings e.g headstock bearings. Put them in the freezer over night. They'll drop straight in rather than bashing the headstock for an hour.

If you're undertaking a big project. Make sure you have a clean space before hand. There is nothing worst in this world than trying to find that 10mm spanner you just had, or that 12mm allen key. You can waste hours until you eventually realise its in your back pocket (yes I have done that :smt017) Keep all your tools neat and tidy, so you know where they are when you want them!

Brake fluid is like paint stripper, if you get it on your fairings, wheels, calipers and/or anything else, get it off as fast as possible. Whipe it off then spray it with water.

Dont forget to clean round the back of the fork chrome, left untouched will result in pitting and rusting. Simply take an old rag, poke it round and through in between the mudguard, then pull end each alternately to clean any crap off. :smt001

Ride your bike regularly!

I didnt for 3 months (i was ill) and now ive got to clean the carbs again!
Sometimes a quick blast, and revving the bike to the redline can clear gummed carbs.

Rev the tits off it- for a bit.

I got my maximum tally of points before i got my ZXR. They took my liscense off me, so i had to do it all over again! Apply for provisional, do CBT, re do the theory, and re take my test all over again! Cost alot did that. I even got fined £80.

Im a good boy now! :smt002

It may sound obvious, but always turn your fuel tap to the off position after using the bike. Saves fuel rotting the float valve rubbers. Caught me out!!
