1999 bike. L5 or L9?

Hi,
Looks like you have a great forum here.
I've just purchased a ZXR400, not picked her up yet but V excited at the prospect. Get her on Thursday, hire van, straps, blankets, all ready.

Wondering if I could ask a question and many apologies if this has been asked before.

The bike is a 1999 in lime green/pearl/alpine white.

It's a UK bike, two owners, used as a summer bike, less than 19000 miles and in almost new condition.

Are all UK bikes registered 1999 L9's, if not is there an easy way to tell, engine number etc?

And I notice some bikes have a 400 decal on the tail on both sides and some don't. Mine doesn't, is there a production date when they started putting that decal on?

Really appreciate any help and advice as I get to know the bike and model.

Thanks
Mark

The v5 will show the frame and engine numbers, it will also show the year of manufacture and the first year of registration. This should Shaw you if the frame is L9, and yes from 1999 to 2003 they were all L9 models.

Fairings and engines are easy to swap...its no guarantee of age

Thanks very much for the reply.
Just so I'm clear, will the frame and engine number actually contain the L9 reference in it?

There's no explicit mention to it, I can find the frame numbers later on, but just use the manufacturer date and frame number from the v5, if your actual frame matches the v5 then it's an L9
