Kawa zx4r '92

Post by banzay »

So, i promised you earlier i'll post here :)

This is a '92 kawasaki zxr400, bought for about 950eu, 3 months ago. It has a few mechanical problems (gaskets, oil leaks) but it seemed a good fair. There plastics were cracked, the paint was scratched and above all, i managed to crack the front part in 4 pieces. But i managed to fix all cracks, and spray some filler/paint over the most parts. I'll RK the engine this spring, in a specialized service, since i'm not a specialist in these matters. Anyway, i learned something from the manual, and could do easy jobs on this moto. I just cleaned the ail filter, ordered new oil Motul 7100 10w40, Mann oil filter, xenon 6000k, measured the rezistence of spark plugs wires ~4.5 kohms, lubricated the clutch/acceleration cable, repaired the cracks with and other detailing stuff.

Hopefully, i'll manage to restaurate it 100% :) Here is a few pics:

certainly looks like you're getting stuck in. have you decided on a final paint job for it yet?
I do 700 miles a week in all weathers including snow, that's roughly 35,000 miles a year, and some weekend warrior biker has the nerve to get out of his Audi at work to tell me to I was riding far too fast in the wet (over taking at 50... fast eh?).

Well...kinda'... I want the front part - white, the sides white (the upper half) and blue de rest, and the parts under the seats (white and green; i allready did this). Also the fenders are painted matt green. The windshield is matt black, and some other little parts that are black gloss. I'll post some more pics after i come back from work :) (BTW it is snowiiiinnnggggg :excited )

i want mine either plain matt black, or ktm orange. Think it really brings out its modern looks!

Either black matt or matt gloss, it looks 'groovy' on the zxr!

Ok, so it suffered a few modifications. Now, it has zxr750front calipers, motul 7100, mann oil filter, chain lubed by motul spray, end fairings custom painted, and i will paint the front fairings blue with green/yellow pearl :)

Oh, btw, i went for my first 'real' ride through town as the weather was just fine this saturday. I enjoy every bit of this little ninja :)

So, after about 1 year, i can really enjoy this bike. Fork working well, wheel is not hitting the radiators :smt003 , all is well. It would need a better paint, but it still looks ok. I tried a little monster theme, but i would have prefered the original theme. Maybe when i will have more time, i will paint it stock again. Polished it, it looks a bit shiny.

I managed to clean it really well, had some oil leaks (now it won't even drop a drop of oil :excited ), my crazy mecanic that i took it saturday for the fork oil change, managed to ride it with top speed 180 km/h in town :smt014 (limited and i am not going to de-restrict it).

Oh...the yoshimura exhaust pipe is killing me, i really need to adapt a silencer :smt020
