1988 ZX400 Rebuild

Post by ZX4R-F3 »

Hi, I picked up the ZX4 from a chap that stated he was in the process of doing it up, in my opinion he did it no favours at all :wanker . He came off at low speed and trashed the plastics, lights and clocks also bent the right clip on, when i asked where the broken parts are, he replied "took 'em to the tip" :smt009 by this point i figured he had no idea. He had sprayed it black decided he didn't like it so put a coat of primer over everything including wheels, frame and anything else that got in the way, by the way he sprayed it with all parts still on the bike and over the original stickers. Also drilled holes in the top yoke to fit risers for straight bars but did not extend the brake lines just unbolted the splitter :smt013 . He was selling it because he didn't have a (clue) i mean time and needed the cash, asking for £500 so £200 of haggling later i put £300 in his hand and the bike in the back of the van :smt001 . I believe it was a low speed crash as there is not much ground of the bottom of the fork leg and the exhaust has a small dent and minimal scratches.
Now the project begins, complete strip down clean up, polish frame, powder coated wheels and swinging arm, ZXR clocks, twin dominator lights with lynx pyramid screen, ZXR levers and master cylinder, top yoke and clip ons back on to start with. Not decided on a colour yet was thinking matt black to contrast with the polished parts plus there are only the tank side panels and tail to paint, due to being unable to find fairings, lights and brackets.
Thanks for looking, any ideas or thoughts more than welcome.

Depending on how keen you are on getting it back to standard:

Plastics http://auctions.search.yahoo.co.jp/sear ... &ei=euc-jp

Plastics http://auctions.search.yahoo.co.jp/sear ... &ei=euc-jp

Plastics http://auctions.search.yahoo.co.jp/sear ... &ei=euc-jp

Clocks http://auctions.search.yahoo.co.jp/sear ... &ei=euc-jp

Plastics & cradles http://auctions.search.yahoo.co.jp/sear ... e&slider=0

Lights & Indys http://auctions.search.yahoo.co.jp/sear ... &ei=euc-jp

Mirrors http://auctions.search.yahoo.co.jp/sear ... &ei=euc-jp

Exhausts http://auctions.search.yahoo.co.jp/sear ... &ei=euc-jp

Sourcing some ZXR400L carbs will get you 32mm CVKs instead of your 30's.

Other option is to fighter it like bozo was trying to do :pmsl

I always think the type of nugget who sprays over everything is the same type who half inch bikes too - there is this belief if they spray it, it wont be recognized :smt009

Good luck on the rebuild , I send plastics regular from here -Ecoair isn't bad and takes 2~3 weeks but sea mail is cheap and most times arrives within 10 weeks.

MM!
Nothing worse than having an H and not being able to scratch it !

Thanks for the info and links, definately got me thinking now, the other option was to fit zxr h model plastics.
