H1 with ZX4 Engine

Post by ZX4R-F3 »

Hello,
This is my build project started with a ZX4 idea was to rebuild it but parts are a few and far between :smt012 , was going to fit the H front end also rear end, long story short ended up getting front end, rear end and frame with sub frame so basically turned into a H build with ZX4 engine :smt003 . Frame, sub frame, wheels all powder coated, frame is satin black. All bearings replaced, engine recon from head gasket up. Various parts polished by myself. 636 rear shock fitted also has the 400 spring fitted so it doesn't rub the swing arm. All work done by myself, it's taking shape nicely i think, all comments welcome.
Thanks for looking,
Andy

Cheers, RedexRob should keep some of the road grime off the hard to reach/clean parts.

Looking good, loving the green spring on the rear shock :smt004 what year 636 is the shock from? I have a 2007 zx6 shock in mine with a custom made spring but I've managed to chip most of the paint off it! Keep the pics coming! I'll get my 400/636 project outside in the daylight tomorrow for some more pics. :smt001

Thanks MM Much appreciated i went for the satin as it has the subtle sheen and matt engine so the polished parts would stand out a bit shame won't be able to see most of it when the fairings are on, but at least i know they are done.
Has it given you an idea for a new project :excited
Cheers,
Andy

Hi Daz, the 636 shock was listed as a 98 to 02 A1, The shock is 30mm longer than the 400 shock, I just put the height adjuster to it's lowest point. I had to drill the top mount out to 14mm I think :smt017 to fit the ride height adjuster same on bottom fitting. As for the spring it has been powder coated, fitting was not a problem I used ratchet straps on each side to compress removed bottom spring retainer, stand well back and release straps. The 636 spring is shorter and wider and rubbed on the swing arm so fitted the 400 spring a bit longer but right width. specs say 12-24mm preload if i remember correctly which is within the limits with adjuster rings near the top of the shock. also has the benefits of three way adjustment without it being rock hard and shouldn't bounce me out of the seat with the amount of potholes about.

Hi been a bit of slow progress lately but still plodding on.
Quick update,
VIC check done by VOSA for DVLA just to get log book.
Carbs cleaned and re-jetted and Quill end can fitted.
Revs smoothly now and no splutters.
Brakes fitted with venhill lines, i like the way the banjos and lines fit together so no line twist.

All bolted and torqued up, just prep and paint to go.

Then thought i would run it round the block to see how it performs, big thumbs up and smiles no rattles nothing fell off and sounds great. :excited

Here is the vid of the first run.

Cheers Andy.

Quick update.

Mechanically bike is complete, just the prep and paint to finish. Aiming to MOT it beginning of April, then a month to fettle any bits and on the road for May.

Front mudguard painted, also top cowling.

Hi CaNsA,

Thanks

The rad mounts are off my ZX4, I just stripped the paint off polished them up and painted the recessed bits.
