was going to use my new aquisition for a couple of months before strip and rebuild, but after looking beneath the skin of her.....decided to start now after seeing so many missing/broken/sheared fixtures and fittings, holed exhaust, milky oil,and general shite and grime............this as you all know brings a shopping list together rather quickly......so i'll be asking for some bits and pieces guys.....i'll get some pics up for bits needed.....and some pics of general condition...........as for plans.well, going for a colour scheme of white(maybe a subtle pearl...haven't decided) and gold to compliment the black, with some airbrushing here and there and a couple of mods, but nothing drastic.......at the mo'........... :tease

What's that all about Dave :smt017 You've been around long enough not to get conned by a polished turd. Shall I pop round and shoot you or should I just send the bullets in the post so you can do it yourself? :smt003

Hope it's not as bad as it sounds anyway. There's some mint bikes out there that started off as sheds so anything is saveable smiler

These http://www.ams-motorsport.co.uk/ are specialist ZXR400 breakers. Save you a lot of ringing round. Also well recommended on here. You might get discount too if you mention this place.

Dave,

All the fasteners and brackets you require are standard Kwak bits. Well, the brackets might be ZXR400-specific but they are still available. I remember those fasteners from a GPX250R I had. If you look on the fiches here http://www.zxrworld.co.uk/zxr400/lmicro.html you should be able to work out the part numbers. If you ring Cradley Kawasaki with these numbers they will be in stock and available to buy. If you are seriously skint you could fabricate your own nut-fastener thingies from a bit of ally sheet or a bit of tin can folded to shape with a nut Araldited on and drilled. But TBH I would be arsed, I'd just order them from Cradleys.

In all honesty you've got bugger all chance of getting a fusebox cover and it's probably not a part available any more new, if it ever was. It probably comes as one part with the fusebox. So you're going to have to get a box from the breaker to rob for the cover.

Again, coolant sensor probably is a standard Kwak bit so Cradleys probably hold stock. You've not much chance of a breaker part as they will sell as a job lot with a rad. Unless you pick up a f*cked rad to rob the sensor from......

If it makes you feel any better my OEM exhaust can strap catches the swingarm and has dinged it a bit. I think it's a design fault. Unless you have the shock set that hard it hardly moves at extreme travel and when you're hammering a bit so the exhaust is vibrating around it just clips the swingarm. I've tried fiddling with it but I can't find a cure and it's only a slight catch so I've just blanked it.

Hmm........ the bike's had a, ahem, hard life it seems........ Slight difference in cosmetic appearance from the ZX9 :gamer

You won't need me to tell you that one of the difficult parts about a resto on a bike with missing bits is knowing just what bits are missing, unless you are familiar with the model. If it's any help to you I'd be willing to have a ride out so you can look at mine, we can take the bodywork off and you can take pictures etc. to help with your rebuild. I know mine's complete 'cos no-one has had their hands on it except me. Decent cup of tea on arrival is all I ask :smt002 PM via the usual channels and we can sort.

Hi Dave,

All the bits you need are still available new , the thermal switches aren't cheap but at the end of the day better than having to mind switching the fan on/off manually.
Part #
27010-1317
Thermal switch : 6,300 Yen ( about 50GBP)
92015-1569
Captive nut tail unit: 275
92015-1094
Captive nut h/light x 4 : 1,500 (about 12 quid)
49016-1150
Fuse box cover 590
11047-1472
RH infil brkt: 1,680 (about 14 quid)
11047-1471
LH infil brkt: 1,520 (about 12 quid)

Total : 11,865

Reckon 3 day express would be 2,200 on that lot so 14,065 Yen or about 112 GBP

MM!
At least you have some figure to compare to UK suppliers :smt001

i think the motor is gonna be ok...was running when i picked her up.and after browsing some of the threads from you guys....what i first thought of a noisy clutch seems to be a common thing among these motors....top end sonds ok with nothing sounding like its about to self destruct,no rumblings from bottom end..so i think she should be ok...hoping to get some new stainless headers and a new can soon and with fresh oil and filter, coolant change etc i'll get her back up ,and running..........even if she still looks like shite, she'll sound sweet.... smiler ..........quick question guys...can i tell if she has a restricted ecu(import) onboard by the numbers....or does she need a roadtest to establish this?

Fork lowers look well nice , I just stripped and polished with Autosol - cheap bastid style :smt003

I was teasing Neo with a full set of SP front forks that bolt right onto his NC30 weekend past but have another set sitting :smt003

Also got a SP subframe with solo seat and a recently arrived piece of unobtanium - a Magical Racing solo seat unit

All for the L

We got my J1 solo seat unit bolted back on Sunday :smt004 But my clutch is FUBARED :smt010

I'll let Neo tell you about his one fork leg incident - it is a Honda after all :smt005

:smt002

Have to say his NC is starting to get there , still no soul though - so I think some NO2 foggers when he gets new intake boots might help :pmsl
