The popo might not accept "my mate is a bike grease monkey" as a reason for not having a number plate lighter uppper.

But the copper would have to be a real jobsworth....

The best mate could potentially be in trouble too for knowingly issuing a test cert pass for a bike that doesn't comply with the regs

The place he works could lose a lot of business if they lose the right to do MOTS

All for the sake of a number plate light......................

I know it would take a real jobs worth of a copper..................but do we all not know one of them..............I know I do

Sorry didnt realise this forum was all about the law. I suppose you all stick to 70mph when riding and driving a car?

I doubt it.

The EU law actually states that a bike doesnt need to have a MOT atall.

Not trying to sound like a d*ck, sorry.

But I doubt Ill get a stop for not having a number plate light. If there no sign of one being there. What makes a copper think it hasnt got one.

I know plenty of people who dont have one on theirs.

*sigh*

UK Law states you must have a valid MOT.
What makes a copper think it hasnt got one.
I think that fact that he cant easily read it in the dark, or the fact that it looks red might just be a tiny little clue......

The forum isn't about the law but there are legal matters relating to owning and riding a motorcycle which it is reasonable for members of the forum to discuss and comment on.

You have just had some free legal advice.........................what you do with it is your business,

Thanks for the advice and everything.

Been told it will need a reflector, as ive said a sticker on the number plate. and the tail light is enought to light the number plate.

Its up to the tester if he wants to pass it or not.

worst comes to worst, ill stick some led ones somewhere :)

This is how mine runs, never had a problem with it either. Use a little round reflector stuck on the plate, about 50p i think it cost.

Cheers, never had a problem with the MOT, although i did have the same reservations but chucked it in anyway and there was no mention of it.

Really transforms the looks of the bike.. much cleaner :)

I want to try and make a tidy tail for it really, need to find a decent welder.

Rear light.JPG
I thought that the rear of the bike could be improved by raising the number plate, but realised that the number plate light and reflector were in the way, yet knew that they were a legal requirement. A stick on reflector was no problem, but the number plate light needed consideration. Looking at the underside of the rear light, I noticed that there is a flat section. So I removed it by drilling and use of a small hacksaw blade, and then araldyted a piece of clear perspex over the opening. The araldyte oozed out and effectively chamfered the edge of the perspex. It's in line with the bulbs inside, and hey presto I have a rear number plate light. There is a gap in the rear fender that suits this new arrangement, and since it is underneath and enclosed by the rear fairings, the mod is nicely hidden.
