Restoration Cost

Post by JamieNeve »

Hi Guys,

I would love to do a restoration/ build for a ZXR400 or similar bike, and was wondering how much they tend to cost?

I understand that you can't just put a price on them as there are so many altering factors, however if you could just throw me an assumption, that would really help. I am assuming that it has a running engine also.

Maybe you could help me break it down, I can do much of the mechanical/engine side of things myself, however cannot build parts so I assume I will have to buy: (If you could fill me in on missing prices, and parts i'll need)

Bike (Obviously) £200-£500
Standard Paint work/powder coating- £???
Various: Bearings, pads, seals, cables- £80??
Tyres- £150
Brake disks- £??
Radiator - £??
Oil cooler - £??
Callipers- £???
Shock- £??
Electrics- £??
Battery- £40
Many other parts that ineviatably will need replacing- £???
Money that I will annoying have to spend, far exceeding my budget- £???

Any help is appreciated guys! :D

bikes aren't cheap to restore to new, especially if you are going for a unique build. and as you havnt said what you want to do, i would assume that the above list is a fair representation of costs if you want to be stripping and replacing most things to bring the bike back up to better-than-new condition if you bike is currently a disaster.

so about £2000 - £3000 sounds about right, im budgetting £3000 for my fzr 1000 exup rebuild as im replacing most things, and doing a full engine restoration at the same time.
