Project Pimp my ZXR '06

Post by deviant »

This one's a bit less urgent than Project Winter Hack since I don't really plan on using the ZXR much over the winter. I haven't really finalised what I'm going to do yet either, but it will definitely include the following:

- Double bubble screen is in the post.
- New chain and sprockets, probably slightly downgeared on standard.
- All the plastics off and a damn good clean.

And I'm tempted by...

- Rearsets.
- Making an undertray and seat cowl (I want to learn to do glassfibre)

And maybe even...

- PINK WHEELS!!!

If I do the wheels it'll probably be in the spring, since I reckon I'll probably need a new set of tyres by then anyway.

depends how i'm feeling, if i wimp out I'll go for black with pink rim tape, or get them done purple (bike is black/purple/pink).

but if i'm feeling silly they will be pink.

screen has turned up today, too late/dark to take any photos now.

oh and I forgot yesterday, one of the fork seals has gone, so that will be another job.

Well the part store is growing....

- Airblade Double Bubble Screen
- Pair of Fork Seals
- 47T Renthal rear sprocket
- Rear hugger (needs spraying black but it was dirt cheap and hasn't got the stupid holes in.

However it's fecking cold here so my motivation to go out to the garage is quite low at the mo.

well, last weekend I finally got round to stripping all the plastics off and fitting the new chain and sprockets, and over the course of this weekend I've:
  • Replaced the leaking fork seal.

Sworn at the fork until I managed to get it back together. (first time I've had a USD fork leg in bits)

Fitted the airblade screen - had to drill the holes out to 10mm so they would take normal screen grommets. No idea how airblade expect you to fit it otherwise.

washed most of the fairings inside and out.

sprayed my cheap ebay hugger matt black (was blue) and fitted it - NO MORE STUPID HOLES :smt003 :smt003

and finally put it back together and been for a quick blast.
feels like a new bike. The 14/47 sprockets make such a difference to how it accelerates, particularly rolling on in top from 70 upwards (having a screen I can hide behind helps too!). Really recommend this as a mod unless you really want to ride at 140mph.

future things to do? well it'll need new tyres soonish but i'm stretching the squared off D207's out until it warms up enough to get my money's worth out of a new set. I'd still like to play with doing some nice fibreglass bits and pieces for it - including now some sort of cover for the clocks, cos with a clear screen on the back of them doesn't look particularly nice.

would post some photos but my camera's had a fit and is refusing to recognise the memory card.
