Hi there im thinking of getting a Ram air induction, thing is how would this affect my bike as i use it for road use and would have to fill the hoover tube fairing in? or is there an aftermarket fairing that i can purchase? cheers

I know of only 2 ram air systems

One is the RMKD and it won't go on a standard bike with standard lights and fairing......................

The other is a replica of the kit Kawasaki one this requires some cutting of the radiator and radiator bracket...................

Both requre the coils to be relocated
Neither can be fitted with a air filter
You need to be doing 70mph + to get any benifit
You'll make any hot starting problems worse ( or at least my race bikes are hard to start when very hot)

Frankly for road use it just not worth the hassle....................pose value only IMHO

As far as I am aware RMKD just made a mould of the KIT box anyway.

I have a kit box for my road bike. I rekkon if you can get one at a good price its worth it. You can allways make a custom filter arangement like pods or something . I would prob am going to adapt a flat filter from one of the newer ram air bikes.

I have a RMKD air box the inlet scoop is right where the headlight goes.

Yeah I know what you mean, but its the same box just with an extended ducting isn't it. has anyone done any airbox pressure testing to compare the two inlet paths. I think that the reason kawasaki racing didn't extend the inlet any further is due to the helmholtz resonator effect. with a helmholtz resonator the inlet length is critical. As the ram air pressure increase is of very little effect on volumetric efficiency. I suspect helmholtz effects are prioritised over small gains in max head pressure. Just a thought.

in any case I think the addition of ram air is a cost effective component of an overall modification plan on these bikes...I say go for it. I will give some pic'sof filter when installed. cheers

well adam there you go..............................some great news for you.......................hope it all works and you get that extra horsepower.

cargo.. have you got a dyno sheet at all. It would be interesting to compare it to someone who has a dyno sheet of a kit one. may be possible to see if the tunning differences are in fairly different RPM ranges. My guesss is RMKD's may be better for low down torque compaired to KIT box. So maybe good if someone can suggest the best of the two for street tunning. For racing anything under 10,000 is a waste so I suspect kwaka didn't care too much about that......worth investigating......cheers

cheers for replying guys. yeah i think i'll give it a shot. just need to get paid first. will let you know how it goes. but to be honest my bike isnt hard to start when hot. it takes about 7 or 8 seconds of trying to start. cheers

7 to 8 seconds would put it in the hard to start when hot category would'nt it?

7 to 8 seconds is a lifetime! Least it starts tho, most need to cool first...

mine start instantly when hot

just been out for another long long ride. errr the hot start problem rule that out. started fine. and engine was really hot.

it was BB plastics that copied the kawasaki kit airbox.

personally i dont see the point on a roadbike.

Depends how you ride your road bike zimm ....my local roads are better than the tracks I used to race on....
