ZXR400?

It's been a long time coming, but finally all the bit's of the jigsaw have come together (apart from some aftermarket wheels).

This will show the start of re-incarnation #1 , this will be for the MOT here and to get all the paperwork sorted.

Rainy season is upon us soon so will devote some time to the build rather than the ZRX - update on that soon !

All the paint has been bought in and fabrication work has commenced so the next post should be Swinger then frame.

The "Gathering" process has now produced enough parts that i can build a 2nd bike (road or track) with surplus to do a 3rd track bike. There is also another H2, if the price doesn't escalate rapid will be purchased as build #4 :smt005

Head work on the ZRX has revealed I am on the right tracks with the tuning , missed out on some BEET cam's the other night but still have my F3's amongst others :smt002

MM! :smt001

PS. Wheels are not forgotten just not essential just now winks

Take one manky rear wheel:

Add a paint brush and a bottle of paint stripper and voilà, a bit of progress:

The small areas left will get attacked again tomorrow once the wheel has fully dried off, then it will be on with the base coat.

While your at it, you might as well attack the swingarm too :smt003

So now it has begun shocking

Removed the rest of the paint and scoured the alloy good with soapy water and a scotchpad.

Made up a cardboard spray booth and started getting the base coat on:

they are 300ml cans made by Daytona - they do a whole range of OEM colours :smt001

The base coats is called X04 (Silver)

Top coat is a clear urethyne that's Acid,Fuel and oil resistant so especially good for wheels.

Just about to go do a 1st colour coat before the sun goes down........

1st coat done, not aiming for perfection here just better than what they were !

Difficult not getting dust blobs when doing it outside on your veranda - wish I had a shed to gag out on the fumes :smt002

29'C just now so paint is drying real quick with a warm wind too. 32'C tomorrow so that should bake the final colour coat on.

Pulled the front wheel of yesterday and endured the mosquito bites in doing so.

Was mildly raining so all the wee fuggers were hiding in the bike shed annoying the breasts off me :smt013

Got the old tyre removed so today stripping the paint off and preparing it for the base coat.

While i was waiting for it to dry off in the sun ( :smt004 ) I pulled the zorst out of the box and gave it a polish, shame most of it will be hidden but i'll know it's under there :smt007

ImageImageImageImageImage

Oh, rear wheel on the rex getting the tyre scrubbed in :smt002

Image

BT021 feels real good :smt003

Getting on with the front wheel today, slight ding in the rim but shouldn't cause any problems.

Aslo finishing up the generator cover, looking good :smt004

Next will be the engine, same Satin Black as cover , must get frame from front veranda and start stripping it down, now set a six week deadline to have this done shocking

Going to be long days for the next 5 weeks ! :smt005

Is that a genuine BEET part the genny cover?

6weeks is a short time for a bike build, but i guess if all your parts are ready to go on and all you need to do is shiney them up then thats pretty realistic really.

Yip, genuine BEET part - now Unobtanium and it's taken me a while to get this one. Last one went for crazy money but this one looked real ugly and I had no competition on it :smt003 Quick nitromors and clean up , spray with " fast black " and good as new again.

5 weeks for the build and 1 week to tidy up problem solve if needed. All the parts are here now - 80% is new or very good condition used.

Swinger needs prep'd along with frame, once done then I can start making a rolling chasis.

I've got a wee cheat - going to use the front end off the ZRX and rear wheel to get the ZXR mot'd

Apart from that, have three sets of nuts and bolts with brackets ect, so shouldn't get suck there, a big box of stainless too, full set of gaskets, 7 wiring looms , two complete near mint body panel sets. can't think of anything I need major repaired so all should be good to go.

Slow bit is waiting for paint to set to get next coat on.

Watch this space :smt002

Out with the Nitromors again - feel the sting :smt003

ImageImageImage

a few coats of the green goo and it soon looks like this:

ImageImageImage

Then it's time to lift it off:

ImageImage

Still haven't decided to paint again or do a satin polish effect - this is easy maintenance but will still take a bit of time to keep nice.

Image

Still need to remove the factory swirl marks out of the beams and the cast section is very ruff so it would need to be attacked , I can see why some paint the lower section Black but I want to keep the full look of the frame and Blacken out key area's only.

Decisions ?
