Seriously, though - there are pics on the site of the kit fitted to various bikes, and it looks fine. You could put it all well out of view, but obviously that makes it harder to get to to give it a squeeze when needed.

So how long do you think you need between applying engine oil to your chain?

i tend to do mine whenever i remember But I used to lub it before going to Germany, and then lub it again when i got there. Typically over a weekends ringing - I'll lub it once.... if I remember.
So, a good couple of hundred miles would be a fair guidline - if it looks dry, lub it!!

in winter i clean it and lube once every one/two week, summer whenever i wash it...Should lube it up so much more but tbh im a lazy fucker and it takes alot of effort to put it on the stand.

Besides with the maintence i do my DID chain on my ZXR has done 10,000 miles though winter and still looks like new so cant complain!

That's pretty much my rule of thumb - but sometimes you see that it needs it but the weather is crap, or you haven't got time, or 'Police Interceptors' is starting on TV, or whatever!

I figure with one of these fitted, as long as I keep an eye on the chain then I can stretch to spending 3 seconds squeezing it at some traffic lights!

only big problem with using engine oil on your chain is in heavy rain it washes off..... and it washes off quickly

but for reference - the other half had 24k on his k1 gixer thou when he sold it, and the C&S still looked like new; he used engine oil on his chain
Ive gotten IRO 16k on my gixxer - and again, theyre still in v.good condition and I use engine oil on my chain.

considerably cheaper than chain wax and considerably quicker too - you dont need to lub the whole chain- just put a couple of drops on and it will spread.

I'd just like to add that I really wouldn't recommend using used oil to lube your chain. There's a reason why you have to change your oil regularly - it's because it loses some of its lubrication qualities and because it gets all sorts of carbon/soot floating around in it (hence it goes black, duh).

Not as if oil's that expensive in the quantities you might use to lube your chain anyway.

second that Deviant - used oil is dirty, and therefore could cause more damage than good. There's a reason why the 2.8litres of oil in my engine needs changing every 3.5k miles,

I'll be buying the thickest oil that I can find to use anyway, so that should combat most of the damage that can happen through heavy rain. You'd just have to get used to lubing more in the rain - which you should be doing with spray lubes anyway!

So what's the thickest, dirtiest grade of oil you can buy?

Gear oil?

don't use gear oil. it stinks.


(thats as in literally stinks, not that it wouldn't work)

got some variator oil mate, or food grade if you get hungry whilst you're out
