10w40 semi synthetic.
You can't go wrong with it!
Some people have tried using fully synth and found their clutches slipping on the ZXR400... it's debateable, but is it worth the risk when the semi does the same job just as well with no problems?
The main reason for the clutch slip seems to be that oil technology has moved on so much from when the ZXR hit the shelves, that the best oils that were around back then are crap by todays standards, and the modern oils are too good!
Also - make sure it's motorbike oil. Car oil is cheaper but contains an agent that will make your clutch slip like a giraffe.

I go for Castrol GPS personally in my bikes.
Car oil ive heard differeing opinions on, ive heard of people using it and not having any problems at all, even on new bikes. But on the flip side ive heard that car isnt isnt upto the job because of the shearing forces on the oil in an engine that revs so much higher. And that you can use car oil just not above 6k or 7K rpm.
Either way, i stick to bike oil.
