My First Kwack build - To do List

Post by Plonk »

Hello all, my first post and first Kwack build. Now, I've done two full restoration, from bolt up on my lovely Cagiva Mitos, but I'm totally new to the ZXR 400. So, I need to know what are the best things to do to my new toy, and no, I'm not mentioning how to get more hp/speed (every newbie mistake lol). My list so far is;

New Bearings everywhere.
Rings on pistons.
Rehone Cylinders.
Light Skim the head.
Regrind the valves.
New Shims.
Fork seals.
Refurb rear shock.

And all the other obvious bits, braided hose, pads, sprockets, etc.

Please feel free to add, not looking at titanium this and carbon that, just sensible mods that will make my baby 400 a great bike.

Ok, so work got in the way, but having removed the bank of carbs, there is an oily/foam substance on number one carb (nearest to nearside), just around the trumpet intake, not actually inside the bell mouth. Any Ideas? Ta

Cheers guys, finally figured out how to post pics! :smt017 :newbie

Yes, no side fairings with it. Turning it from blue to traditional green, satin black frame, matt black engine and gloss black pegs, hangers etc.

My first Cagiva 7 speed engine was shot, so they both have 6 speed in. Back in the garage for more pics, you lot are so demanding!

Current state of play with Mito #2
2314131o0A1OnnW.jpg
Total bolt up resto. Polished swingarm (from black powder coat, grr) wheels are ducati gold (nightmare to do), graphite grey cases and gloss black sub frame. Engine is ported, rebored, and squish sorted! Added gold to the rear shock for that OH lins look! Both calipers in gold, awaiting bodywork to be sprayed red in Kocinkski rep scheme. Clocks replaced with glass (all cracked) , new seals, bearings, oils, fluids. Just for you Leey!

So to begin with, dodgy foamy residue outside carb #1 also from a pipe that leads to the middle of the bottom end of the engine...

several bolts need drilling and some numpty has decided to spray the shock blue and everything else black, screen, bolts, screen, frickin everything!

Advice welcome lol

So, nasty foam residue is from the hole in centre top pic, with the wire going across it, clues please lol. Ideas for the shock, rebuild, hagon replacement, zx6 swap?

Discs off too and ready for masking, priming, etc. Forks apart and serviced, bottoms to be painted...
