Clutch Issue

Hi again.

Just got the project complete and had a few runs out now, running beautiful except... clutch slipping at high revs. Its perfect right upto about 10500/11000rpm then just slips and wont bite... i have:
- Adjusted cable giving it free play
- Fitted new clutch cable
- Checked all thicknesses of friction plates and metals and all are at top of servicable limit according to manual
- Fitted brand new Heavy Duty EBC clutch springs

But after a run today seems dreadful to be honest. The oil is a Semi Synthetic (cant remember brand) Does anyone know where to go next?

When was the oil last changed?

Just done few bits on engine and changed it then. So literally 250 miles ago?

Friction and steel plates all in the right way round?

Did your clutch slip with the old previous oil either?

Not sure on whether it slipped on previous oil as I bought the bike as a project then and didnt ride if before oil was chabhed due to it having no brakes.

Do they need to be a certain way in? I will double check that also.

is it deffinitely motorbike oil?

car oil has friction modifiers in it, if you use car oil it WILL slip

I've used car oil on all my bikes, never had clutch slip.. I don't think its a shut case issue..

Did you change your springs as well? Look on the parts fische, are all the parts there?

My vfr has an odd warped ring behind clutch plates, without it I could imagine it slipping too..

for reference thats an anti-judder spring, designed to give better clutch feel and make it less "grabby"...usually just replaced with another friction plate.

car oil has friction modifies that reduce the amount of friction between the internal components, its also designed to work with a dry clutch and at 6k rpm...

anyway lets get away from all this dirty honda talk can we?

How do I know if clutch friction plates are in the right way? Is there a way of telling if theyre facing the right way? Im gonna have a look this afternoon. Many thanks

they dont have a "right way" as both sides are identical, they go friction-steel-friction-steel-friction etc...

L model frictions, the thickness limit is 2.5mm, and the steels should be flat (measure it on a piece of glass as its very flat) and not blued or scorched looking.

check both baskets for wear and general "notching", replace if bad, there should be 6 friction plates and 5 steels.

when you release the clutch actuating lever from the bottom of the cover you need to rotate it and drop it down about an inch, dont pull it out fully or you will probably need a new oil seal...

Interesting tx, I just mentioned it in case the kawis have them too and whether the poster verified it was there..
