same ole restriction probs

Post by samuelhann »

hey i jus got myself a jap import 94 zxr and ive bin lookin ova the site for info bout it. im quite sure i need to get the 112mph restrictor out ill prob get the motrax converter. however i still think the bikes not as quick as it shud b in acceleration. ill be having a look for the restrictors in the carb and im also considering getting a uk spec cdi.
buuutt wot i wanna no is... does anyone know if they are restricted elsewhere ??
and
ive talked to a tuning company near mine in witham called total traction, they used to be kawasaki specialists. they said for £250+vat they will set it up and rollin road tune it and apparently theres stuff they can do to the inlet manifold to make it quicker etc.. does anyone know if this is true or worth doing???

ye definately get a UK cdi, tho all this does is allows it rev up to like 14,500rpm instead of 10,000. but helps. erm, im unsure bout restrictions coz, i know there is a 33bhp restriction in the inlet manifold, washers. and apparently theres a speedo restricton, dunno how it works, something about pluggin in a black box to the speedo, i wonder if u disconnect it if u feel any difference? no there are things u can do, the simplist being things like k&n air filter, and there's trumpet things that go over the carb inlets claiming to gain 4bhp or so, some ppl use em, tho iv never seen any hard evidence as to there effect. they cost bout £40.

if ur having trouble accelerating, check simple things that effect power delivery, ie, mixtures correct, carbbalance, no flat spots, valve shims, inspect cam lobes aren't worn.

£250 + vat sounds alot for a simple dyno and tune. or is there more work involved, like dynojet kit, manifold stuff etc.

i expect that 250 quid includes labour and probably some parts if they change jets.

Sam, arent you simons brother? hows he doing these days? Surely he knows all about this :smt002

and yeah i think theres a flat spot when i rev it quickly, ima give it a set of plugs and a service and all that stuff then ill see what the tuning involves with that company i think. im not sure but i think it already revs to 14k but its defo still i jap cdi cos i had a look ova day.

Glad to here he's doing well, i have a 7R myself now. Send me the URL of the pics and ill put em up fior you, you wont be able to post em just yet.

You should get simon to give your zxr a run, he knows what it should be like. Also, run some redex through a tank of petrol, little bottle at Halfords for 99p will do a full tank. That should clean any crap out of your carbs, get em balanced too. Change the air filter, and as you said change the plugs :)

A UK CDI will sort out the speed restriction. The only other restriction is the 33bhp kit which is only fitted if your on a restricted licence. They sit in between the inlet rubbers and engine block. You can check for those by looking to see if there is a plate of some sort there, they usually overlap slightly, found a picture :)

How to remove 33bhp restrictors coming soon in the workshop section :smt002

You can see it through the carb yeah, either way you gotta take the air box off to see anything i think.

Just had a look, if the plates overlap the inlets like they do in that picture i posted, then you should be able to see them with just taking the tank off through the gap between the frame and the carbs themselves.

Its a 400 mate, it will be crap below 6k, and its pretty normal for it to take off like a two stroke after 10k.

welcome to the forum by the way :smt001
