Deepest, Darkest Childhood Confession...

Post by Jamz »

Here's a confession that I've never even heard anyone in the UK make, and I doubt very much any of you foreigners (especially the Yanks) will have even thought about:

When I was a kid, playing with action figures and cars, I used to do all their pretend voices in an American accent.

There it is.

What's THAT all about, eh? All my friends were the same, too. OK, so this may just be something that happened in my village, because it's something I've never heard asked of anyone else. Will any Brits confirm or deny that this was true for them, too?

Personally, I blame Dynasty and Star Wars for this.

But now I've told you all my deep dark childhood secret, I'm wondering if you 'Merkans and other assorted deviant foreigners used to put on English voices when you played with toys?

Did you have a Brummie Han Solo, or a Cockney Barbie???

I have to also confess that when I answer the phone at work I put on a bit of a posher voice to hide my Brummie accent a bit! :smt003

Some of the women at one company I deal with have recently told me I 'sound like a very distinguished gentleman'. If only they knew... :smt002
