Tank Key
Hi Guys,
Im having some real problems getting a replacement key cut for my petrol tank / seat storage.
Does anyone know where I can get a blank from ? or even better a key cut.
I have tried the local Kwak dealer in Worthing (Alf's) and I've tried a whole bunch of key cutting shops in the local area.
The key has J&S on one side on the other it has
M283E and some Japanese writing

Re: Tank Key
my current key is I think cut from a Vauxhall blank. I'd keep trying local key shops until you find a helpful one who's prepared to improvise!
I think key blanks do crop up on ebay from time to time. the tank cap is pretty universal to 90's kwaks.

Re: Tank Key
I found a lock smith close to me (Dublin) with every blank you could ever want. There not Kwak but they work all the same.
if your realy in a pickle PM me and i can send you a few blanks.

I'd still like to get my hands on the muppet that decided it was a good idea to just use the tip of the ignition key to open the fuel tank.

Re: Tank Key
I bent my key whilst on a trip to my flat in london, I just went to the key cutting place in a sainsburys that i stop at for lunch, girl there cut me a key in 10 minutes. She may have had special powers though as I seem to remember her eyes not looking in the same direction.

Re: Tank Key
apparently its common practice, but other manufacturers still have enough depth for the whole key to sink into , yet in only uses some of the avaiable notches on the key. So that if some unsrcupule gets a key cut from your tank lock, he cant turn on your igntion.deviant wrote:I'd still like to get my hands on the muppet that decided it was a good idea to just use the tip of the ignition key to open the fuel tank.

Re: Tank Key
You dont need to look at the key while cutting it,
Just shove the key in the machine and it does the rest pretty much,
Just follows the dips in the original like a router.
Shall try a few other places to get the key cut, But i might have to take you up on the offer of getting a few blanks.

Re: Tank Key
yeah, it's the depth that is the problem, not the complexity of the lock. that and the fact that the petrol strips all the oil out of the lock so it's really stiffNorthern ANdy wrote:apparently its common practice, but other manufacturers still have enough depth for the whole key to sink into , yet in only uses some of the avaiable notches on the key. Re: Tank Key
hmm,...i had a problem the other day, not either key would unlock the tank cap,....due to riding in rain it had dried up good style....managed to free the lock up, but then noticed that the key for the seat lock also fits tank lock?? i had been using ignition key to unlock it, both keys fit, but look totally different to each other??
weird,...then again key for seat lock is alittle bent, so mayb its a good thing the other key fits too, wouldn't want to snap the key in the tank lock
