as i understand it, the bike test is set to get tougher next year but i wondered...
what if you are trained up to take the current test and you unfortunately fail at the end of the year, so you reapply for another test which falls into 2008
do they allow you to take current test or do you have to pay more for lessons to retrain to take the newer test?

ps. glad i passed my test years ago!
There's No Explanation For The Way I'm About To Behave!!!
Guy i worked with over the summer was from Albania. According to him, in Albania, you have to do a years course before you get your test, you have to learn how to maintain a car and do lots of theory.
from what i've been told from people at work coming over from other countrys (india ect) the english test is by far the harder. I also rember reading some were that the english test is the hardest in europ.
still they are easy, took my 1 lesson to pass my bike test and 4 to pass my car

well, Indian licences are only valid in UK for 12 months - you then have to apply for a provisional licence and take your full test again. That kinda concurs with what you just said rene - that they english test is far harder.
for countries within the EU - licences are valid until they expire in the issuing country.
My other half is Finnish, and I also have a lot of Swedish friends - they are all amazed at how quickly you can get a driving licence in UK. I dont necessarily think that it is because the test is easier (even tho it is too easy IMO), but in other countries there are minimum periods of time where you have to be riding before you can be issued with the next stage of your licence. Or atleast thats how I understand it!
we make it harder so there are more failures then you have to take more lessons and more tests which costs time and money and more tax and more tax and more tax , clever these governments!! (w****ers)
Don't forget people there is more to the zxr400 than this forum... check out www.zxrworld.co.uk also.
in 1997 I did a car test and someone crashed into me in the test, so test annulled. by the time my retest came about, i had to all of a sudden do a theory test and a new style test. I just said "stuff it" and got a bike. CBT no test. cheap to buy and run and insure. Who needs a car, eh?
Waited till 2001 to do bike test, then 2003 did car test, which was easy once I had all those bike years on the road behind me.
I think Germans have the right idea - a diary of hours spent driving before you can even do a test.
if you have to rack up a certain amount of hours then its going to become to expensive, plus such a waste of time! i passed my bike test 1 day after my 17th b'day and my car test after 4 odd hours worth of lessons. There was no point me doing any extra hours training as i was already at acompatent level of driveing (as proved by passing a test).
Making the test harder will have the same effect as forcing people to rack up more hours as you need more training to get though the test. Best way imo
