Throttle Cable

Post by edible »

Good morning ya'll.

Just got my very own zxr 400 and whilst out on a pleasant sunday afternoon my throttle cable snapped. Is it best to get this re-fitted by a mechanic or is it a fairy straight forward operation. I have no engine or mechanical know how but am not afraid to get my hands dirty. Been quoted by my local kawasaki dealer 80 roughly for both cables and fitting. Is this reasonable?
Cheers

its easy mate. Just a tank off job to do it. Undo the housing on the right handlebar, take the tank and air box off. Loosen off all the lock nuts and take off the old cables. Re-route the new ones along the same routes. And then adjust the freeplay as it says in the manuals. Really, even with no mechanical knowledge, i'd say an hour tops. Which is why they are quoting £80 as it'll be £50 labour!!!

Don't forget people there is more to the zxr400 than this forum... check out www.zxrworld.co.uk also.

depends mate. If you want to balance the carbs up and change the spark plugs, the tank needs to be off. If its been recently serviced then probably not anything else needed to be done.
