k&n airfilter

k&n airfilter
my bike needed a service so when looking for an airfilter i found a K&n one going very cheap so i bought it.... now ive had the top of the air box off and taken the old filter out but cant figure out how to put the new one in??? any ideas?

i believe you have to cut the original cage, i'm assuming you have bought one for your model bike? the L are a small box shape, H are flat panel.
Don't forget people there is more to the zxr400 than this forum... check out www.zxrworld.co.uk also.

yea its a box shape one, so you think i will need to cut away some of the plastic?

i'm sure with the K&n you have to cut the original plastic holder to fit the element.

No, No, No you do not have to cut away at anything. Do nothing of the sort, all you will do is create air leaks. OK?
1st) First remove the air box.
2nd) Take out all the little philip/cross screws so the airbox can split in half.
3rd) Now remove the metal mesh part in the air box and replace it with the K & N, it should just fit in to the metal mesh's place.
4th) Finished, now put back together.

ok so basically i need to take the tank off and take the whole air air out then put the k&n in then put all back in?
does the top part of the airbox need to be attached? seems like it may restrict airflow?
