Don't forget people there is more to the zxr400 than this forum... check out www.zxrworld.co.uk also.

the only way is to get it on a dyno. there is no mixture screw to adjust to make it run great. just get it on the dyno, see dynopro racing zxr400 open dyno day thread, he knows what he is doing.

If your getting confused with the idle mix screw from the other thread, that wont do f'all apart from making the bike idle correct

nah the bike idles fine, its just the end of the exhaust is well sooty, and every now and again when the engines hot, it will only tickover if i hold the throttle flat out, if i let off the throttle it dies, thought this might be something to do with mixture?,

just googled colourtune, it seems very simple but how accurate isit? obviously theres more air gettin in at say 70 mph, so the right mixture at idle wont be right at speed, so how do u find a inbetween?

dude, the idle mixture is from a different set of jets. with respect you have a little homework to do before you jump in to setting up carbs on a multi carb bike (zxr400 especially).

There is a really good carb set up thread somewhere in here but I really wouldnt recommend buggering around unless you really know what you are doing. Valve clearances, air filter, main jet, float bowl level, pilot jet, idle air mixture screw, exhaust pipe, and can, carb synch etc etc all have an effect on the low and high speed performance of the bike.

like the man said, either read all about carbs for a week and then pay someone else to do it or ...

pay someone else to do it LOL.

:pmsl
all i want to do is set the fuel/air mixture screws right as im running a bit rich, not piss around with jets, then after that i will balance the carbs,
p.s, ive already buggered around with the carbs lol and there a lot better, just need a set up

the fuel air mixture screws you mention wont do much to stop it running rich like i said mate. They are just to adjust your idle mix. And it is idling fine so they should'nt need touching.
rich running is due to needles/main jets/ incorrect float heights/ air filter probs/etc....
apart from simple filter blockages,etc.. nothing you can get perfect without use of a dyno and its operator!

If its not pulling clean, it will make you enjoy the bike more when it does, so yes it is worth it.
The only way is to get it on a rolling road. Some dyno place will bullshit you, and not do the best job.
go with a recommendation. Dynopro racing in runcorn

On a carbed bike your realistically not going to have the air fuel mixture perfect under all running conditions, when a machine gets hot it inevitably runs richer. Which is much more desirable than it running lean tbh. I think a dyno run would make it feel better on the whole, though i don't actually know i'm just guessing lol. If you do go for it let us know if its worth it
