What's The Closest You've Crashed To Home?

Post by Jamz »

I remember reading a statistic somewhere that said err... a lot of crashes happen within a short distance of your home - probably a mix of over-familiarity and letting your guard down.

What's the closest you've come a cropper from your house?

Mine was probably a few Winters ago on an old TS250 crosser. I rode about 40 yards from my drive along the service road, then carefully negotiated the hairpin turn onto the main road.

Here I soon discovered that every other car had spent the morning spinning their tyres and polishing the icy road to a lovely gripless wonderland - my rear kicked out on part throttle and then as there was nothing at the front either I went down sideways with the bike on top of me.

"Bugger!" I thought, and went to move the bike off me, promptly jamming my foot into the spokes of the spinning rear wheel and twisting my ankle around the twin rear shocks at a most odd angle. I had to lay back and hope someone managed to stop before they ran me over... which they did - but the poor woman looked like she was going to spew her guts up with one look at the angle of my leg.

Then a local Chav came shuffling over to help, luckily just throwing his dog-end away before he reached down into the puddle of petrol around me and helped me get the damn bike off me.

The second closest was about another 40 yards from there (so just about opposite my front door) when I hit a fallen telephone wire with my neck and had the 'fun' experience of slamming all the anchors on and sondering if I'd stop before the wire tightened and lopped my head off.
Who needs tyres when you've got knees!!

First crash I ever had was turning into the driveway at my folks house I'd just got a footpeg to touch down for the first time ever on the last corner on the way to my folks place and though I could do it again...................NOT
The peg hit the kerb and down I went. Landed up against the open gate............................ :wanker

Closest has been about 20 seconds up the road, although i was heading home. In fact it was the 2nd time id binned it that night too. One on a left hand bend and then one on the right hand side. As you mentioned over familiarity, guard down and wet roads. Plus thinking that bikes have the same grip in wet as the dry. I was a young lad, once.

About 2 foot from my garage door. I was coming home from work and knew the misses was going out so was gonna put the bike in the gap next to the garage door. Only doing about 2mph as I started to round the back of the car, my daughter ran out pleased to see me home. I grabbed a handful of front brake and down she went (the bike that is).

Managed to get my leg under the bike so very minor damage. Only thing I did was snap the foot peg. :wanker

Hi,

The closest for me was in the carpark outside my flat. I parked up after coming back from my mums, was dying for a piss and because I was in a hurry, I forgot to put the side stand down... So the bike fell on top of me. And to top it all off, I had a gallon of oil in my back pack.

Regards

Rich

About half a mile up the road on my first bike. Commuting to college, I used to pass a house with a 2004 zx6 on the drive way and everymorning I had a good look. Well this morning I looked too long and as I got my eyes back on where I was going, I was greeted by the back of a picaso.

PMSL!!!! @ redexrob

Well i haven't exactly become a cropper as such, never come off the bike while riding (touching wood), but with last 400 I was riding it through the gate at home, into the shed.... when i put my left foot down - onto a muddy patch (what i didnt know was there was a drain underneath this muddy patch) , my foot suck by 3 " which meant i had no balance...hence bike went over and i was left pinned against the fence with my own bike! nice bruise on leg for my troubles lol :wanker
people say that before you die, your whole life flashes before your eyes... make sure its worth watching !! ;-)

I got on my '05ZX6R from the left (sidestand side) but it was a bit tall for me, and I shifted my weight over to the right, and there was a hole in the drive, nowhere for my foot to land, and the ninja went down on the right hand side. Luckily, I put my leg under the fairing to stop it getting scuffed. Lol.

But yeah, I can laugh now but i was so pissed off at the time!

Also - has anyone noticed that when you're about 1/2 a mile from home and yu lift up your visor, you're guaranteed to get a little black fly in your eye to annoy you that last little bit of the journey...
