Cutting out depending on side stand!? High Revs wont stop!!

Post by xxx Blaze xxx »

Hey guys,

Did post earlier but noone seemed to have any ideas. Basically once I start the bike, it idles now ok at about 1,800. Minute I use the throttle the idle suddendly increases to almost 3,000 and wont drop once releasing the throttle. I found leaning the bike over on its side and the revs almost die and then suddenly it cuts. Depending upon the angle I am holding the bike either causes it to cut out or rev its bullocks off. I tried to ride it up the lane but just so bumpy and often cuts out. Please can anyone help me at all>?

id start with all the basic things check every thing is secure and routed correctly. if not its gona be a case of carbs off and cleaned out and setup propely maybe the float heights need setting up.make sure there are no air leaks anywhere.hope this helps as a starting point.let us know how you get on

first thing start the bike, get a can of wd40 with a straw attachment and spray around the area where the carbs join the head, this is the usual culprit for these symptoms, air leak on the inlet rubbers.let us know what happens.

Hey m8 thanks for reply, you had this exact same prob then eh!? So buying a new set of carbs and wacking them on wouldn't sort the problem then cause its the seals? Out of interest whats hylomar blue, is it something I can apply myself and where can I get it from? cheers man

Oh and one other thing, which type do I buy is it the universal hylomar blue and do i simply apply it to the rubber seals then drop the carbs in. Sorry to be a pain but what happens if I need to remove the carbs, how would I take them off if this stuff has sealed it up, many thanks

think you will find its more than likely where the rubber inlets bolt to the head, i used Hermetite red on mine.Should be able to come apart again no problems.

Hi yes you need universal hylomar blue as it resists fuel you can get it from any motor factors. You will need to remove the carbs which means taking the tank off. If you look at the bottom of the carbs you'll see the rubber seals each one having a screw clip you need to undo. you will also need to remove the throttle and choke cables from the carbs then they should pull off, you may need to prise them with a screwdriver but be carefull not to damage the rubbers. Once you have the carbs off you'll see the four rubbers, each one having two allen key bolts undo these and take off the rubber and alloy ring, clean up both surfaces and put sealer on then replace smoothing off any excess that pushes out when its tightened down.
Whilst you've got the carbs off i'd strip them down and clean them as if the bikes been stood the fuel gunks up and can block the jets and fuel ways which could also be causing your problem of cutting out. Its nearly always something simple so your best off trying these first before you go buying carbs etc..

Just to add probably worth balancing the carbs and setting the mixture screws as well bit trial and error with these things but you've got a bit to go on now :smt003
