Rear Master Cylinder
I might be thick as pig toad, my googling skills might plain suck, or the info might just be really well hidden, but I can't find the size of the piston/bore of the standard rear master cylinder on the ZXR400 anywhere. I have a H1 but am assuming, once again, that the same M/C was carried over throughout the entire ZXR400 model life.
I have a feeling that it will be around the standard half-inch size and am thinking about dropping down to a M/C with an 11mm bore to get a bit of a stronger bite, but I would like to know what I'm running at the moment, without cutting it up and getting out the verniers, so that I don't drop the size down too far and get a rear brake that just loves to lock up my wheel.
The only markings that I can see on my M/C are the expected "Nissin" and the number 1/2, and I seriously doubt that that in any way relates to the size of the piston.
Cheers negroes and negrettes.

Re: Rear Master Cylinder

Don't forget people there is more to the zxr400 than this forum... check out www.zxrworld.co.uk also.

Yeah I'm retarded. For some reason I worked out 1/2" as 6mm in my head when I looked at it. I need to sleep.

Re: Rear Master Cylinder
I can't imagine why you'd need a rear brake with "stronger bite"
When I'm braking on my ZXR it take very little to lock up the rear as it is..................I deliberatly leave the rear brake well alone I've not changed fluid or pads in my bikes for ages.
In fact I've never changed rear brake pads.
Given you have an H1 I'd think a change of fluid and perhaps a new seal kit would sharpen up you rear brake sufficiently to satisfy you

Re: Rear Master Cylinder
I use the rear for 90% of my braking, that's why. It is correctly bled and all that jazz.

Re: Rear Master Cylinder
Do yourself a big favour and go and get some riding lessons.......riding using the rear brake for 90% of your braking is completely the wrong way to do it........................
Motorcycles have suspension and when you brake the weight of the bike and rider is thrown forward so that the front suspension compresses that means that the front tyre is loaded up conversely the rear of the bike will unloaded. With the weight thrown forward the chances of the rear tyre losing grip and skiding are greatly increased and braking efficiency is hugely reduced. No wonder you want to have a brake with stronger bite your braking distanes are crap.....you will soon enough crash into the back of something big and solid and unmoving and it will hurt you and your bike.
You should be braking at the very least 80% front and 20% rear..........................in the wet make that 60% /40%

I don't know why I'm bothering but several national dirt track titles and a few state roadrace titles say that I can ride a bike champ.

Oh, so that's why bikes have two huge discs and 4 pot calipers at the rear...intra wrote:I use the rear for 90% of my braking, that's why. It is correctly bled and all that jazz.

Cargo has been racing for a long time, including racing at the TT, which i think trumps your dirt track titles any day of the week, mate. And also makes him more qualified bar one or two poeple to tell how you should be braking with one of these bikes.

Re: Rear Master Cylinder
There is no way in f*** you could win a roadrace braking 90% rear!! Doesn't take a manx GP rider to tell you that, a CBT teaches you better than that!

Damn, thought that was my thang !!!cargo wrote:Troll alert...........................
Past year I have had no rear brake to make me use the front a hell of a lot more than i normally do, why ?
Well , I started off on the dirt and your rear brake is your buddy
Indeed in the past it has saved my skin on the road many a time but I know the front gives a lot more but always erred to the rear
Something about being cranked over and heavy front braking and it sliding out makes me want to throw the rear on and slide the fecker round
Last week I hooked the rear brake back up and OMG, talk about stopping ! Gets embarrassing stopping 30ft away from the queue
But it's getting unhooked again as already my devilish ways are returning of slamming it on and counter steering to fook :smt013 Not on a track i don't care about tyre life
Anyhoo, as cargo said , you need to be using your front a lot more !
BTW, most Kwaks run the same 1/2" Nissin at the same pitch so other models will fit.
Troll finished
Nothing worse than having an H and not being able to scratch it !
