Haggling

Post by RedexRobB »

How do you guys do it?

Possibly buying a new 09 Versys this week, price of the bike has already gone from 5825, down to 5499 and the other day 5299. Wanna get them down to 5K or less, only draw back is ill have to pay via finance which compared to a cash deal is alot weaker.

Never haggled on price in my life, so what your techniques an experience?

just be a cheeky git ... if they wont come down on price try to get them to throw in some free stuff ... years servicing, some tyres, jacket, boots .. whatever you either need or reckon you can flog on ebay.. there's a much larger mark-up on kit (100% in many cases) so they can afford to be more generous.

a printed quote from a competitor @ a lower price than they've offered can work wonders...

end of the day you could wait 3 months and get the bike cheaper... they know this and sales are slow this time of year.

EDIT : £5495 OTR is the rrp for an 09 versys standard, so if thats what you're after getting its hardly a bargain @ what they've come down to so far ...

copied from cradley kawasaki,

VERSYS STANDARD £5495.00 ON THE ROAD

VERSYS ABS £5849.00 ONTHE ROAD

VERSYS TOURER £5825.00 ON THE ROAD

VERSYS TOURER ABS £6175.00 ON THE ROAD

Well Rob....i have just bought a new 09 zx6 p9f.....retail price £7899.....scoured the internet and the best deal was Kawasaki direct at Watford...£6299.....then after much more scouring £5489 at 'Claycross Kawasaki' in Derbyshire....so tried all the 'antics' Zimm mentioned....Nah...not worth a lite...get the bike down to the 'bear bones' and you get nothing free...ONLY biggrin ...Kawasaki 0% finance...and over 3 years....My advice....keep looking on the net...try 'bike trader' and 'mcn' bike search type sites...and dont worry about distance....most bike dealers will transport you a bike the length of the country for around a hundred quid.

Forgot to mention it is a Tourer, so it has the panniers and 'vario' screen, now sat at 5299, making the bike worth 4800 ( not bad i suppose) really, id be buying the panniers seperate anyway if i didnt get them with the bike, so if i can get the bike for 5k ill be happy!

Thanks for mentioning the looking round bit, roger. Already found new tourers for 5k on mcn, so will be having a closer look!! So far id only checked bike trader and ebay, couldnt think of anything else!

You do get good deals on finance, as the dealership get a bonus from black horse or the finance company they deal with for setting up finance, and the finance get their money from kawasaki from selling their vehicles.

An 09 ZX6R for £5,500, you say?
Hmmm. Would 2 brand new bikes in a year be a bit much..?

I must stop this, I am getting a Civic Type R. Not more bikes. Tsk. Anyone know of any for sale? Best option so far is a '04 with 79,000 miles on , FHSH for £4950. (new brake discs and 2 new front tyres on it)

Shame you don't get 0% finance on used cars. Lol.

Best tip I can give you rob is to be prepared to walk away from any deal offered.....................lots of other dealers out there.

And wonderpup is right you can get just as good a deal buying on finance as you can cash if not even better..............................any deal with a large amount of cash folding money involved has to be reported to some gov agency or other because of money laundering.

With finance the dealer is selling you a bike AND he's selling you the money to buy it...................two sales two lots of profit......................two ways to haggle him down.

Dont forget that often dealers have targets to meet or maybe a bonus to get if he meets his target so try doing your deal near the end of a month if he's only got one more bike to sell to get that bonus or meet that target me may be more flexible on price.

Good luck

Exactly how I got my '09 ER6N on the cheaperoo - He needed to shift his last 2 so that he would be given his stock allowance of ZX6Rs.

buildbase replica 2009 ZX6R 1 mile on the clock. So technically not new, but it is really. Image
says £7995 on the advert, I managed to get him down to £6200 so far including a trade in (£4500 back) on my '07 ZX6R and the rest on 0% finance. Hmmm. So I only got to find either £1700 or pay £57 a month for 30 months.

I wish they had Civic Type Rs for sale. They always do me a good deal.

Well i called about a bike today, cheapest ive seen so far, 4799, and price is OTR + 100 for delivery. Went to my local dealer to see if they could price match and they wouldnt drop lower than 5k, so said fine no problem ill see you later, so i did just that.

In the end i will have to take the bike back to the original dealer for the first service which is free (except oil etc), so i wont be much better off however once i take out fuel, so i might blag that my local offered me 4900, can you deliver it for free? If so ill lay down the deposit today and ill see you when you deliver the bike. Not sure what to do if they cant do that, i guess try and get something free cheucked in......

Depends how many miles it is to collect it - there was a chap collecting his ZX10 from Bournemouth kawasaki and he had a 300 mile ride home (cumbria) and Bournemouth kawasaki had done a deal with his local kwak dealership to send the first service bill to Bournemouth kawasaki. Hence first service free.

See if you can get a deal like that? Proper kwak dealers are all on a network, but how friendly they are with each other does vary.
I know of dealres swopping stock to get in the colours the customer wants too.
