carb balancing by ear
mybe a daft question but is it possible to balance your carbs without a balancer ? i mean by having the bike running and adjusting the screws by ear ?? have done abit of this this afternoon and although i have ridded bike of the pain in the ass hanging at two grand problem ,i now seem to have made it sound like a frog with a cold , sounds like its running on 3 , bike goes ok once going but sounds rough , any ideas ?? , i should just invest in a balancer , just times are hard , have more time than money so happy to spend hrs just ferking about with it

Re: carb balancing by ear
when you say its running rough is it actually 'misfiring' and is the rev counter actually fluctuating up and down alot or does it just sound rattly?where is the idle set?does it 'rattle' when going or just at idle?...........if its running on 3 cylinders at idle its something more than carb balance.............might not be related but could it just be clutch rattle or another rattle that you can here?....although sometimes balancing carbs can quieten this down

Re: carb balancing by ear
mmmmmm , balancing by ear doesnt work , used the drill bit method to get them near to right , runs better than it did and will do for now till get hands on balancers , thanks to all , recomend to anyone that if you aint to sure about anything you should always ask before sticking your hand in with spanners and screwdrivers , these guys are a massive sounding board , thanks
