Bike was already warmed up so I got myself ready and jumped on - now usually the bike is already started and it's just a case of putting in gear and off I go but on this occasion it wasn't.
As i brought my leg up onto the rear brake I felt i had left something in my pocket - a quick grope and it was a spanner.
Mmm , take that out and shove it into my jacket pocket rather than it being tight and annoying in there so stretch my leg out and start to put my hand in my trouser pocket to pull it out.
At this point the weight of the bike moved and I suddenly realised my left leg was tucked in too much and was on the verge of twisting my ankle as the weight transferred over !
Now realising I couldn't stop it from tipping over I was faced with two options :
A) Scramble as best possible out the way and let it drop.
or
B) Swing my right leg over as fast as possible and lay it down on top of me
I chose B and in a slomo moment of me falling and holding the bike up long enough to get my leg round and under I managed the task !!
I then scrambled out and picked the bike up.
Damage:
Scuff on bar end (was new)
Scuff on mirror (was new)
Scuff on indicator (Black marker sort)
Scuff on polished part of gen' cover (polished out)
a few marks on the panel (now polished out)
All in all well happy with that and a god send the bike wasn't running (kill switch being fitted next week)
Moral of the story:
The bloody spanner stays where it is
