I NEED ADVICE! buying a zxr on friday!
Right, i'm a new rider and i'm off to buy my first bike, a zxr400, on friday (hopefully)!
I've just been to look at a zxr quickly after work at a dealers. It looks in decent condition and i am quite happy that everything looks ok BUT it has been down the road causing just cosmetic damage (from what i can see) to the side fairing and crash bung.
I told the guy i will be back friday morning to have a proper look over it so what shall i look for? Could there be a chance that the frame may be bent due to its crash?
I've just read the buying guide on this website so i know what else to look out for but i just thought it was worth asking you guys for some tips!
Cheers
Rik.

What my plan is, is to restrict the bike (i've not passed my test yet) so that i can ride it legally until i can get the time off work to do the Direct Access course, thus giving me decent riding experience on the 400 without going to silly and giving me more of a chance at passing first time.
Does anyone know wheres best for me to buy a restrictor kit from? or is it best leaving it to a garge to do the whole lot?

hehe! Its nicer than it looks in the pics. I actually thought it looked pretty cool when i saw it in the flesh lol. I can afford it, and it all looks fine (not had it running yet though), but theres just the matter of the small scrape down the side. I don't know what to make of that really. AND i've just realised that i could restrict it to ride it legally lol so i may be down a few quid this weekend
Is it worth restricting though?? hmmmmm....

you'll still have to do your test, just the restricted test to even ride it restricted. You won't be able to ride it on a provisional. You do realise this, don't you?

I'm 23 with a full uk driving licence though? done ma cbt and theory just need to do my practical. Doesnt that mean i can ride upto 33bhp? What am i restricted to at the moment then?
I was just planning on restricting until i found the time to do the direct access, because that takes 3 or 4 days to do. That will hopefully be around summer time. All i know is that i can ride a 125 at the moment as long as i display L plates.

If you are 16 years old, you can ride a moped. If you are 17 or older, you can ride a motorcycle or scooter not exceeding 125cc and 11kW (14.6hp). That's without a full (or restricted) motorcycle licence, both of which require a practical test. If you do a restricted test you are then... er... restricted... to 33bhp (25kW) for 2 years. DAS means you an ride anything, no restrictions

Re: I NEED ADVICE! buying a zxr on friday!
I would LOVE to buy your bike mate, but its a bit out of my price range at the moment. And to be fair, seeing as you've spent so much time and money on it, it might not be a good idea me having it as a first bike because i would probably end up dropping it or something like that lol.
I need a bike i will be happy to properly learn to ride on and not have to worry about the odd scrape here an there etc.

Nice one theliam but i dont need a restrictor kit now, i got confused n thought i would be able to ride it restricted but as bendog66 has said, i can't. So i'll just wait n do the Direct Access. I'm reet then!
