to say u need a pipe to drive a mondeo, means u got the wrong car, its not a rover and mondeo isnt really an old mans car, its aimed at the family market, hence why im looking at it,
although i wont knock rovers i had a rover 45 turbo deisel and i regret selling it, it has been the best reliable car ive owned so far!,

rovers?? well known for head gaskets, i had a tomcat that cost me 2 grand in repairs, a rover gti that fell apart and the driveshaft snapped, a rover 414 head gasket went, i wouldn't touch another rover as long as i live.

but masters ur had jap engined rovers, i had the very reliable rover 2 litre turbo deisel, after your dad sold that red one remember my dad drove that to nearly half a million miles, the gearbox's couldnt keep with the engine lol, so i still maintain deisel rovers are solid engines,

nah, the honda engined rovers were bulletproof. it's the rover k-series engines that have a healthy appetite for head gaskets.
a mate had a honda engined 416Si that was a fantastic car. no sunroof or leccy windows so only weighed about a ton, and pretty quick. the "old man" reputation makes them brilliant "stealth cars" - noone expects them to be quick.

yeah there pretty quick cars rovers, but in responce to the japanese engined rovers my old mk6 escort 1.8, totally devestated my mates 214 off the lights and then some, needless to say that friend soon after bought a escort gti and is now ona puma i think, but he said his 214 had a headgasket done by the previous owner, so i think the jap engine is prone to them

so your 1.8 was quicker than a 1.4 - wow!
and you're mates 214 was almost certainly a rover K series engine - by 1993 they had the 1.4 k-series in production, but the 1.6 was still the honda unit for a while.
