Dunno bout anyone else but that made me sick to the stomach.
a mate had his 6 month old gixxer 6 lifted from outside the tescos where he worked in bristol. literally lifted, despite the alarm and a chain through the back wheel. straight into a van. probably upwards of 30 onlookers, only one of whom did something (running into the shop shouting that there was someone nicking a bike outside). van was caught on cctv but was either nicked or on false plates.
Professionals will have your bike away if they want it.
My security measures:
a) a 1993 zxr400 isn't the most likely thing to attract professional attention. so it's mostly only thieving kids I need to guard against (and I'm a lot less worried about them now I don't live in Bath any more)
b) at home, it's in a garage that isn't visible from the road (in our back garden, with another set of gates before you get to the road), chained to two other bikes. Like Caz, I won't even consider a house without a garage any more. We're renting at the minute, but when we buy I'll also sink a ground anchor into the garage floor.
c) out and about, I use a disclock and take care about where I park. If I could fit a chain under the seat I'd probably carry one as well. If I'm touring (and hence have luggage on) I'll definitely take a chain.
